Project Scarlett arriving Holiday 2020
Project Scarlett will set a new bar for console power, speed and performance, arriving Holiday 2020 alongside Halo Infinite. With a custom-designed AMD processor, high bandwidth GDDR6 memory, and a next generation solid state drive (SSD), Project Scarlett will give developers the power they need to bring their creative visions to life. Thousands of games across four console generations will look and play best on Project Scarlett.

I'm curious if they've found a way to enable backwards compatibility for every single Xbox title that ever existed, without having to re-package them in an emulation wrapper as they do now for Xbone.

I think getting older is definitely lessening the excitement of new console launches. That said, I'm looking forward to cyberpunk but I'll be playing that on PC as I can't imagine PS4 being a great experience for it.

The console, known as Project Scarlett, will be the "most powerful and highest-performing console" Microsoft has ever made.

Oh really? Who would have thought that. Shame there was actually nothing to see of it bar some cgi.

Spec sounded similiar to what Sony have said for PS5, wonder if they both will launch in same window.

I was kinda expecting Microsoft to announce abit more details for it, sounds promising though

Sounds very similar, gonna be slight differences and then all down to which has the exclusives you want.

Ray tracing
8k compatible
120fps
SSD (noticed they were using the SSD as virtual ram for something or other)

Only thing I heard that I've not out of Sony was variable refresh rates.

They will be running through Hyper-v again as they do currently. If they decide to bring original xbox games to the PC one day, that's the easiest way to do it.

Never been an xbox fan, have always played on PlayStation, but I do love new tech, so am always interested when something gets announced :)

However.... 4 times more powerful than the Xbone?
So, they expect us to believe a console will be running at 24Tflops in 2020?

Yeah...... no!

If there is hardware parity between MS & Sony then Sony will win it yet again with their superior exclusives. A Halo game at launch ??, MS will need to better than this, much better.

There's a snippet about BC in AMD's blog post (see OP for link)

Project Scarlett will also be backwards compatible with all Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games available on Xbox One today – all of which will play better than ever before.

So if it's not BC on Xbone, it's not BC on the next console.

Why do they need to do better? Halo to Xbox original fans is one of the best titles ever to be released on console. Following it up with a new game for a new console launch is absolutely amazing to those of us that support Xbox and love Halo. If it doesn't pull across PS players, so be it. I'm glad that for those of us that have always had an Xbox and favoured that over the PS, that we're getting something that is familiar but as a new story. That suits me perfectly.

And on the subject of winning, I don't care which console wins because it's just sales numbers. As far as I'm concerned, with things like cross-compatibility, backwards compatibility and Game Pass (along with the PC and ultimate), playing on the MS platform, the gamer is winning. Microsoft is taking care of their target market and we as gamers are the winners here. I don't see Sony doing that at all right now. Winning on amount of sales means nothing these days...

I won’t be buying it expecting 8K or 120fps, just a nice, solid 4K60 will do.

Haha no chance were getting 4k60. 4k30 and if we're lucky 1080p60 or hopefully 100+ fps. Even now days, pc gamers would rather game at a lower(than 4k)resolution, but higher fps/hz.

Best case scenario, 1440p60 upscaled to 4k.
