Project Scarlett arriving Holiday 2020
Project Scarlett will set a new bar for console power, speed and performance, arriving Holiday 2020 alongside Halo Infinite. With a custom-designed AMD processor, high bandwidth GDDR6 memory, and a next generation solid state drive (SSD), Project Scarlett will give developers the power they need to bring their creative visions to life. Thousands of games across four console generations will look and play best on Project Scarlett.

I'm curious if they've found a way to enable backwards compatibility for every single Xbox title that ever existed, without having to re-package them in an emulation wrapper as they do now for Xbone.

There's a snippet about BC in AMD's blog post (see OP for link)

Project Scarlett will also be backwards compatible with all Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games available on Xbox One today – all of which will play better than ever before.

So if it's not BC on Xbone, it's not BC on the next console.

Haha no chance were getting 4k60. 4k30 and if we're lucky 1080p60 or hopefully 100+ fps. Even now days, pc gamers would rather game at a lower(than 4k)resolution, but higher fps/hz.

Best case scenario, 1440p60 upscaled to 4k.

I would strongly disagree with you but the ray tracing might put a spanner in the works and cause resolution/fps to be reduced.

I'm guessing we're only getting 16GB memory and they'll use the SSD as virtual RAM if extra is needed. That saves a few quid on the Bill of Materials.

Isn't the new Call of Duty running at nearly 4K with 60fps on PS4 Pro even in an early stage without optimization? Games like that could manage 4K 120 on the new consoles, probably.

I hope the next gen Xbox doesn't have a similar laggy as **** UI like we have now. Smooth please.

It's going to be using Windows Core OS (according to Windows Central) which is a brand new version of Windows coded for modularity and without any legacy guff bogging it down. I'm quite excited to see whether it lives up to expectations.

I like this quote from Phil Spencer at X019

Phil Spencer: If you remember at the launch of Xbox One, we were $100 more expensive and less powerful. So, I won't be in that position. There's no doubt about that. As an industry that's growing so fast, we do think about price. We do think about performance as well. I'm not going to sacrifice performance for the sake of price.

That's great news to my ear. I'd rather have something powerful at £499 than something not so powerful at £399.

In case you missed the subtext, all XBox One games will be backwards compatible on the next console.

Yes, I didn't think there was any doubt in that. What will be interesting is to see how they run though. Will plain Xbone games be upscaled to 4K (much like 360 games are). Will games with Xbone X enhancements run that version instead.

Surely it is finished though? Or mostly. The APU has to be done and dusted so that manufacturing can start - they have to start in Feb/March to have enough units for launch in November.

Here's what Windows Central are forecasting...

Codename Anaconda (pricey Xbox) = 12TF GPU, 8 core Zen 2 @ 3.5GHz, 16GB RAM (13GB available), SSD
Codename Lockhart (cheapy Xbox) = 4TF GPU, 8 core Zen 2 @ 3.5GHz, 12GB RAM, SSD

And there's rumours flying round that Microsoft may reveal the consoles (i.e. a big teaser) at the Game Awards on Thursday, hosted at the Microsoft Theater in LA. But I'd take that with a big pinch of salt.
