Something super is coming...

Nope

The reason people keepnphones longer is not the price it’s the lack of innovation.

Price is certainly the reason why I don't swap my phone so often

I don't care how innovative phones or any hardware is if it isn't well priced!

Grim is correct in my case. The reason i don't swap my phone every two yearly is due to innovation. My Galaxy S8+ is due for a swap right now but i will be keeping it for another year and paying way less for my contract each month. If the new phones were a huge step up i would probably get a new phone every 2 years when my contract is up. I done the same with my Note 4 as the Galaxy 6 series didn't seem to offer much more so kept it for a year more than the contract. Hoping the Galaxy 11 series will feel like a major upgrade.

I don't buy my phones in one go though so people that do that may think differently.

I bought my iPhone 6 outright in 2014 as it was a massive step up from previous gen...bought it unlocked and got a great deal on a sim...

Ever since then it’s been a drip feed with no compelling reason to upgrade it...same os as a iPhone XR etc...

I’m thinking my 1080ti might have the same longevity...

OK, so can we talk about Fitbits and cameras and jogging pants and maybe your favourite boy band in here too?

:p :p :p

Since it's no longer a thread about GPUs :p

Phones are a good analogy here imho (as opposed to stupid suggestions like sports cars) because Nvidia is quite clearly playing the high margin lower volume game like Apple with what is fundamentally mass produced electronic consumer goods.

I think Nvidia need to wake up to the long game being positioned by AMD cos they are going to run out of market on this current path, and PC gamers like substance over spin.

It's also a silly analogy and they're not particularly comparable. Apple is nothing like nvidia with it's high margin low volume. Nvidia has over 75% global market share in recent sales, AMD is around 20%. Nvidia does huge numbers and have complete control unlike with Apple who are on a similar playing field to Samsung alone, let alone all the other android based phone companies. Nvidia can play whatever game they like, they have the money and the products with a lack of competition for the most part.

I thought the pricing on 10 series was pretty bad, but 20 series is bordering on a joke. If next gen consoles live up to the hype and have full mouse and keyboard support from the off, I think a lot will jump ship if the GPU prices continue the way they are.

I can see a large proportion of the user base going this way. 1) the gamer now wants to just pick up and play, not for just simplicity but having family and hobbies means less time available to tinker and blow budget 2) If they can reproduce the graphics like GoW on the ps4 with weak hardware it sets the gold standard for what we expect for PC games that so often doesn't deliver for the price paid.
