PCVR is too fragmented, until that sorts itself out AAA will stay the domain of PSVR.

And Oculus.

I actually think VR kind of just needs brute force money or one of the bigger innovators in the game *cough* nintendo *cough* to enter.

For example, if Oculus somehow convinced Nintendo with a bucket load of cash to release Mario Kart VR and a Pokemon VR port (something simple, not even a fully blown RPG), VR adoption would be INSANE especially if it could work on the Quest.
 
i think their product is going to sit between the quest and the index but for the index's price in classic HTC fashion.

i don't see how they really fit into the VR game anymore. Oculus have taken the low end/mid range. valve have set up camp at the high end. both big boys are offering exclusive games, one of them offering a portable VR solution with a dedicated store and the other has best in class/next-gen controllers and refresh rates.

i dont see HTC matching the controllers or the price point of oculus.

Again, I just don't see HTC doing this. HTC have historically overpriced their tech every step of the way.

It'd probably be smarter for them to just try and out-do the Index. If they're going to compete with the Quest, they need the software and developer support to couple whatever snapdragon they put in their headset, which I believe HTC are incapable of in the long term.

But psvr is itself a shard of the fragmentation.

Oculus pc hmds support all pcvr content aside from what is on the MS store (albeit using the steamVR wrapper).
SteamVR hmds support all pcvr content outside of the ms store (albeit using the reVive wrapper).
Windows hmds can run it all , but has the least native support of the bunch and almost fully relies on wrappers AND has the worst tracking of pc vr hmds (still better across the board than psvr).
PSVR outsells PCVR because consoles outsell gaming pcs, but there will (I hope) continue to be a market big enough for those who want a premium VR experience.
PS5 will close the gap a little for a while but consoles fixed hardware is both a strength and a weakness. PCs will inevitably hugely pull away again over the course of the ps5 lifespan

The pc gaming market is supposed to be 500 million gamers. Ps4 has 100 million or close to it.

Psvr has the benefit that it’s super cheap - dunno about you guys but it’s generaly less than half the price of the popular pc headsets over here and comes with free games. The other benefit is it just works, look at HP reverb, got launch then got recalled due to issues
 
It is for me

The only VR headset I own is the psvr and if I buy a pc headset I want a large resolution upgrade. Over the weekend I went to try on some of the existing ones on the market and the stuff around 1400 X xxxx doesn’t blow me away. 2160x2160 or more is what I need to be satisfied

I’m over the vr honeymoon period and need a big boost in many areas especially image quality and clarity to get a purchase
I am surprised tracking quality is not the thing which has you sold to be honest
For all rifts improvement it is the tracking which worries me most with games like indeath and sports bar VR seemingly causing massive issues. It's still leagues ahead of psvr mind you.
I own a rift CV1 and have pretty much ruled out rifts even IF my CV1 fails. It looks like index or a 2nd hand CV1 for me I think untill oculus decide to release a true rift CV2

The relative silence on the part of HTC regarding the cosmos makes me think they don't have anything up their sleeve to compete with the Oculus Rift S/Quest or the Valve Index.

I like the idea of a headset that can pair with either a PC or a smartphone though so maybe HTC are onto something with that concept.
 
I think originally they were supposed to launch in July but all we have is silence.

Either as you say the product is inferior and too expensive to the competition OR they ran into major technical issues.

I’m surprised HP Reverb even launched given the issues they’ve had with headsets overheating
 
Yeah, if you're late to market and your main competitors are releasing shiny new hardware (which makes your current offerings look uncompetitive,/overpriced) the very least you want to do is put out some marketing to tell customers why they should wait for your product!

It had better have some serious special sauce optics inside the headset before they can charge that for it!

Of course HTC seem to live in a world of their own when it comes to hardware pricing so it wouldn't surprise me in this was just a Vive pro fitted with inside/out tracking and a thousand dollar price tag!

I think the Cosmos will be an upgrade HP Reverb. Same 2160x2160 screens, but with IPD adjustment, more cameras and better controllers for $799. Everything stated will make it the best VR headset on the market.
 
Now confirmed, 2880x1700 combined resolution (1440x1700 per eye), so well short of the Reverb. This JUST edges the Index (1440x1600 per eye), but I'm not sold on the Cosmos controllers. Index has the better solution here by far I'd say, providing game developers actually utilise the finger tracking. In examples seen so far though (Boneworks for example), the potential is clear.
 
Ya quite disappointing. Look's like Reverb will be "the" VR headset for 2019, maybe even 2020.

Sweet looks like Cosmos is the one for me then. I'd like a Index but Valve has decided it will continue to limit it's market by only selling it's headset in a small handful of countries and exclude most of the world.

Reverb has overheating issues and while it's got a great picture - it's a Windows headset and doesn't have the support of the others

That's what would put me off the Reverb regardless of the optics. Being WMR means the controls are meh, the tracking average and the software/driver/game support seriously lacking.

I think even Microsoft view WMR as an EOL product at this stage!
 
I separate VR into seated, standing and best overall. For seated experience (driving, flying ,space) Reverb is king as its headtracking is perfectly fine and resolution is awesome. For standing and splitting experiences 50/50 Index/Cosmos would be better.

No overheating issues with my Reverb so far.
