Probably waiting for B550 boards for that. And it's a toss up between the 3600 and the 3800X. Or others :p Bring on the reviews.

Regarding GPUs.... I think what I'm going to do from now on is what I've just done. Buy at the end of the cycle. Buy EOL. Not worry about new cards.

The future seems to be less exciting in terms of performance jumps, and new cards each gen seem increasingly unlikely to match the value of the outgoing gen. At least not for a year or so.

I would get a Ryzen 5 3600 and overclock it. It is £150 more for a Ryzen 7 3700X.

I'm very tempted to upgrade from a 1070 to a 2070S, especially if the AIB cards come in at just over £475. I play at 1440P 155Hz and my 1070 is definitely starting to show its age with everything on high/ultra. According to the Kitguru review, i'll see an average of a 45% increase over the 1070 at 1440P, even higher if I OC the card.

Sell the 1070 for £150/170 and upgrade for £320ish - seems a no brainer to me?

I was originally going for the 1080Ti, but for a new card with newer features at a similar price, it makes sense to go for the 2070S surely?

Same sort of boat.

Recently upgraded to a 1440p 144hz Monitor with a 1070 Strix.

Will probably look at the 2070S.

It might be worth waiting until Sunday to see what happens with the 5700XT but at that res the 2070S seems a no brainer yeah.

I'm going to wait and make a decision after seeing what performance/price the 5700XT comes in at. I haven't touched a Radeon card since the 9800Pro :)

1080ti is about the same performance as a 2070S
But buying a 1080ti used usually = minimal/no warranty.
And also GPU driver updates are more geared towards the newer cards. RTX is a bit pointless currently.
1080ti has 11gb ram whereas 2070S has 8gb
So the decision to make is if a 1080ti for £350-400 or a 2070S for £475-£550 would make more sense

The 2070S reviews seems to indicate that it's pretty much on par with the 1080Ti at 1440P, which is fair enough. My issue is the minimal warranty, lack of new features and poor driver support going forward. A small price to pay for a newer card makes more sense to me.

The cheapest 1080Ti I can see on the members market was around £440/450, which puts it slightly below a new 2070S. Also, who knows if the card has been used for mining?

to buy a nearly 2 year old 1080ti over a 2080 or 2080s for 450 isn't the best deal for warranty or features, although I do think raytracing at this time is not that great.

On the flip side, CPUs tend to last a lot, lot, lot longer than GPUs, so spending a bit more to get something that won't be out-matched by a PS5 seems sensible.

That's why I'm starting by looking at the 3800X, and going from there. I won't be going upwards, but the 3700X and the 3600 need to show their hand before I rule them out :) The 3600 does look like a good value for money chip - BUT I'm questioning its longevity in a world of 8c/16t devices like PS5.

The 3700X seems the one to buy :)

@Gibbo Dunno how OcUK plan to sell these cards (haven't looked at the website yet) but I would suggest a sub category for the super cards to make it easy for the consumer. Don't have them mixed up in the same list. As your run in to customers who buy cards thinking it's a super and then realising they've actually bought the wrong variant.

- Name: 2060 (Regular 2060's)
Sub Category:
2060 Super (Only the super variant)

- Name 2070 (Regular 2070's)
Sub Category:
2070 Super (Only the super variant)

I thought they were doing away with the 2070 AND 2080 OLD CARDS AND JUST RUNNING WITH 2070 SUPER AND 2080 SUPER??

So... I would like a new card that is true.

Currently have a 1080 which is OK but Metro Exodus at 1440p you have to turn off all the extra to run it at 1440p at Ultra.

Odyssey... crushes it at 1440p it's playable but must be in the 40s

BF5 runs crap. But benchmarks reckon I should be getting about 100fps. So probably not the card at fault here.

The question is, buy a 2080 Super to enjoy RTX games now or wait until April (CyberPunk release) and the 3000 series whenever that arrives.

12months minimum take the super lineup shrink to 7nm and that is what you will get with 4gb added to the midstream cards. 2070s looks an ok card with a good 2x8 pin version with triple fans if you get to 2100boost you come within the 2080 by 4fps.
