So the ESA who run E3, had a spreadsheet with information relating to email addresses, home addresses, mobile phone numbers for all the press who attend including streamers and youtubers

https://venturebeat.com/2019/08/02/e3-data-leak/

It seems this spreadsheet was out there in the wild unsecured on the ESA website for anybody to grab and get the data to dox whoever they want who is on the list, of course that data is now on other sites like Kiwifarms so even though the ESA have tried to fix their mistake the damage has been done.

What I'm curious about though, is in terms of GDPR violations does all 2000 count as 1 collective breach or would each individuals data being leaked count as a separate violation, so 2000 violations (obviously only applies to Europeans so will be less than 2000)

People already seem to be trying to organise a class action lawsuit and with companies like Sony pulling out of E3 this year, I guess this is going to be end of the ESA and E3 if they get hit 2000 multi million lawsuits ?

I don't blame them, the gamer-gate style nutters are still out there and will no doubt be hounding all the women journalists that they "Don't agree with"

Some of the youtubers/streamers have already mentioned that random people are phoning them and emailing to tell them they've got their data, it's probably not so bad for european tubers/streamers but in the US with extremists on the left and right and with SWAT'ing being fairly common it makes this leak actually dangerous for these people unfortunately, ESA should definitely pay for this mistake

its classed as a single breach of GDPR..not per record on the spreeadsheet

Why is it that time after time we find these big companies have been breached, then find out its down to their lazy setup, yet they never get punished and everything dies down until the next breach?

What is it going to take for these breaches to be taken seriously?

So I imagine just a £20million fine then as I doubt 4% of their turnover is higher, still should hurt them

It seems ESA were notified about this file being publicly available months ago and they did nothing, until it got printed in the gaming press, also seems their 2004 & 2006 lists were somehow leaked too

I just seen the list, its very detailed.. first and last name, job title, email address (some seem to be private non-business email addresses), real life address, down to even apartment number, phone number and a couple of other things.

Whoever is on the list should sue them out of existance.

I only recognise one name on there.

I work in cyber security and it still amazes me when I hear about some of the bad practices happening in this day and age

Search elsewhere. That dude's incessant non stop waaaaaaaaa in every single one of his videos is worse than nails on a chalkboard to me.

I really think that there's a discussion to be had that a story should ideally be sourced from a non-**** outlet if there's the option to do so, these outrage artists are IQ destroyers.

It's just so low effort and degrading.

I didn't watch the video. Looked like the typical Youtube balls where everything is "OUTRAGE" or "DISASTER" or "EXPOSED"

I mean he is exposing the incoming outrage from the people doxed after this disaster from the ESA :p

And it's not as if there's a venturebeat link you can go read instead, I specifically included it because Dowie like Diddums always likes to blabber on about how "X youtuber is an irrelevant waste of space and not worthy of their viewing standards" which I always find funny

Maybe you guys should band together and make a thread on your approved youtubers/gaming journalists, so you can all stop whining like divas when somebody posts an unapproved vid/link and then you could actually contribute

Holy **** you're triggered. Instead of pushing for a more sensible quality level of discussion you'd rather push it down into the gutter with these OUTRAGED youtubers.
