Morning
Decided to move on to nvme
I Have an msi trident 3 with mz-vlw1280 128gb which is too small for comfort
Few days back there was a sale on sabrent nvme but it is 2280. My understanding is that 1280 are m.2 ssd and 2280 m.2 nvme. Can i use the same slot for 2280? Reasoning behind this is there is a gap on 1280 and none on 2280 and looks like same size connector. Probably not but worth asking someone with more knowledge
Cheers

The 12 and 22 refer to the width of the PCB. Connector is the same. 80 is the 80mm length. Order whatever you like!

If by gap you mean the notches in the connector edge, those are keys for compatibility. SATA and NVMe will have different keying so you don't put an NVMe card in a SATA-only slot. We're assuming your board supports NVMe right?

Also check the mobo manual for maximum dimensions :)

You are just confusing the model number of your current drive which is a Samsung MZ-VLW1280, which happens to have 1280 in the name, with the physical size of the M.2 module which is 22mm wide by 80mm long (the most common size).

You current drive is likely to be a PM961, MZVLW128HEGA-00000, which is a 22X80mm drive.

PCB on tridents are somewhat like a laptop, sodimm 260pin ram with full size cpu. Not much info on it at all
Googling my current drive (MZVLW128HEGR) seem to suggest that its Gen3 x4 and the one i bought (SB-ROCKET-512) seem to have all the same specs
Was convinced my current one had 2 spacings to suggest its sata, reason i got confused :D
Thank you guys :)
