Upgrade from a 1070...

1080ti at it's cheapest was only just under £650 I think.

So the 2070S matching and in some titles beating due to architecture optimisations for £200 less is good progress no?

When will we be happy then? £50 1080Ti performance?!

£500 or less for 2080 Ti performance plus at least double the RT performance in the form of a 3070 :D

Yeh I should have got a 1080Ti in the first place.
But we have always been happy (haven't we?!) With a 30% (at least) uplift gen to gen.

People are getting unrealistic IMO
We haven't really got a 30% upgrade this gen due to the price hikes. 2070/2070s replaced the 1080 not the 1070, the 2060/2060s replaced the 1070/ti not the 1060 etc. It's more like a 10% performance increase across all the price ranges.
30% used to be a lowball upgrade too, usually it was 40-60%ish the last decade or so.

the issue is the 2070 super should be £350 max. the GTX 1060 6gb was around £180, GTX 1070 around £270 before price hikes due to mining.

So with the 1070 being £270 how can you price the 2070 super at £470+? that is double the price for the same series of card just a generation newer.

you are advising people to upgrade a generation but downgrade a series yet pay more for that card than you did the series up in the previous generation.

so if BMW release say a 3 series for £40K and a 5 series for £60K

then 2 years later say. well the new 3 series we are making is slightly better than the old 5 series so it's now priced at £70k and the new 5 series is now £100K.

i would say forget it. there is no way I am paying £70K for a 3 series when an old 5 series was £60K new.

which is why i am prepared to wait for a real upgrade which doesn't cost me a lot more than what i paid before.

Same monitor and card as you mate, everything still going pretty strong except I can't get 60fps in RDR2 at sensible settings but trying to hold out till 3xxx.
It doesn't seem a good move to upgrade now though I feel the itch having had the 1070 pretty much since release.

I've got a 980Ti and I'm planning on picking up a 2070 Super on Black Friday. I keep telling myself to wait for the 3XXX series but I can't, my interest in gaming fluctuates so by the time the cards arrive I may have lost interest again

I might pull the trigger on a 2070S if BF deals are decent, if not I'll wait for 3XXX.

as a 980Ti owner myself (same perf as a 1070) the 2070S doesn't interest me its just not powerful enough this far on. What I'm looking for is 2080Ti +10% perf at a sensible price or something much faster in general rasterization if the price is 1k no smoke and mirrors just raw performance in current and legacy titles.

Would be nice but its not happening anytime soon, and I'm done with my 980ti working its nuts off, sounding like a boeing 747 and pushing out a ton of heat

Seems pretty arbitrary requirements.
980Ti nothing special lots of things will be an upgrade

2070S is definitely a solid upgrade over 980Ti or a 1070 in my case but I'm still hesitant as it's still expensive and my card does't really struggle that much except 60fps in RDR2.

Used 1080Ti's go for ridiculous money as well. I'm really looking for a good, worthwhile deal. If I could only know how much faster the 3070 will be than the 2070S... I doubt it'll be on 2080Ti level but if it's even 5% faster than 2080S while being more efficient, then I'd really regret getting a 2070S now:p

Worst case you sell the 2070S and lose £50-£100 max, I know its subjective but thats not a massive loss if the 3XXX series turns out to be monster.
For me the noise and heat is annoying now, your 1070 I would imagine is better in that sense so ultimately up to you

Yeah, I can totally understand your card driving you nuts, that alone is a good reason to upgrade.

Mine is still somehow as quiet and cool as 3 years ago, I can't even hear it under load so I'll have to think it through but I can't say I'm not tempted to get something in a few weeks.

Sorry to jump in here but I'm in the same situation as the OP. I'm looking to upgrade the main components on my PC and start with the graphics card.

Could someone do me a favour and see what the 1070 is going for in the member's market? I'm thinking of a 2070S but may go for a cheaper 5700XT if I can't get much for my 1070.

Same, people are constantly saying wait for 3xxx series. I'm not waiting another 6-12 months when my 980Ti is already 4 years old and struggling to play Skyrim how I like to. I agree buying a 2080Ti for even the sale price of £890 is madness, but a 2070S is quite a considerable boost over a 980Ti. I could seriously be tempted.

Whilst you're at it, why not hope for a new Intel CPU that has 2x the power of an 8700k at half the price? Not sure how or when something that has the 2080Ti+10% power at a reasonable price is going to appear. Maybe in about 3-4 years perhaps.

From the few ive seen for sale it seems to range from 150 to 175 depending on make. I think ill jump at the Palit 2070S, i can always move it on when the 3*** series drop :)
