I understand that this may be irrelevant advice, but humour me. Consider giving him the present of not only the PC itself, but the joy of learning how to build it yourselves together. At 12 years old he is at a good age to be learning this. If I could do it at 14, at a time when information wasn't quite as easily accessible as today, anyone can.
If nothing else, it'll be better value, and you and your son will be better placed to troubleshoot and upgrade in future.
yes of course. being 3rd gen you'd need a motherboard which has bios flashback though. which would be a little more expensive than the budget* boardsIs the Ryzen 3400 an option?
