Smart Meters

Had a Scottish power smart meter installed today. Electric is working fine but as suspected the gas wouldn’t connect to electric meter as it was going through 2 external and one internal wall.

Old meter is still in place, the installer tested to see if it would work before taking the old one out. To be fair for the long term purpose of these things (time of use tariffs) not having it on gas isn’t that important.

Quick update on my situation with EDF. Smart meter fitted on 4th September and still no electricity readout on the remote display. Logged into my account and an estimated reading was taken for gas on the 24th September. Contacted EDF again on Wednesday and they apologized, said it's being looked into and they'd be back in touch within 24 hours. Nothing so far.:(

That's crazy I work for EDF and replace hand held for this very reason on a daily basis  The CS dept are worse than useless!

Latest update, I now have a personal handler for my complaint. She says the meter is sending readings but couldn't explain the estimated gas reading on 24th September. The smart display is still displaying gas only. She told me she'd be back in touch within 48 hours, that was over a week ago so communication is still poor.

I'm with Npower, moved in march to current house, gas meter wont send readings, contacted them and finally they are going to put the new smart meters in. This mean I can switch to a new provider and keep the smart part right?

Not that I'm aware of... Unless you can get some sort of webpage scraper that works with google home? There is not provision for any smart meter to integrate with google ecosystem natively.

Yeah, i'm also not really sure the benefit. "Hey google how much energy am i using" doesn't seem very worthwhile to me!

Not going to be having one fitted here as long as they insist on ripping out one of the two matching front room cupboards in order to fit it.
Got a picture of the cupboard and meter in place? If the service is covered up (mains fuse) then the power company (not your provider) can rip it out even if you are not in agreement. Under terms and conditions of transport they have the legal right to access the equipment they own via what ever means required.

It's common for new tariffs to require a smart meter, it will soon become the norm for all suppliers.
That's just it, the wording in the contract doesn't say I have to have one, it says I have to allow them to contact me about one.
So I won't be having one.

"11.1
With this tariff you agree to be contacted during the tariff term for the installation of a smart meter."

that contradicts what you had said/discussed/showed in the energy provider thread ... what happened ?

just waiting form someone to productionize these, or I may go DIY https://www.develcoproducts.com/products/meter-interfaces/
There is no way the DCC will allow third party devices on to the network, your going to have to make one yourself or add one to your I coming supply after the meter but before your consumer unit.

the interface watches the led flashing on the meter and will then speak to a zigbee hub/bridge like Smartthings, and give you reports on a phone/pc

EDF are taking the **** now. They've asked for a meter reading as the smart meter isn't sending readings. They've also asked if they can close my complaint as in their words "the signal is weak in my area" What does that even mean?

They're a waste of time and money and unless you live in a strong-signal area, where they can eventually fleece you with surge / hourly pricing model, not to bother?
