So how do we sum up the 10's?

You can find crisis actor companies to fulfil your needs in any conjured scenario, just employ crying woman A to attend your mock event to add some emotive fakery to any occasion. Need a group of protesters with pre made banners that all look suspiciously well made and similar to each others, no problem! They can get the job done

Boris lol please my god..,.as if it's all part of a bigger plan and not a comedy of errors..

What are you comparing things to and from when have we "lost our way"?

Whilst that quote has some valid points, it just seems to be another diatribe about how bad everything is , whilst thinking of some imagined time where everything was better.

Have we still got a hell of a lot to improve? Absolutely! However compared the past, things are generally getting better.

Someone else has already answered that.

The rise of the alt fact, the death of logic, the creation of a fact resistant human sub class, the elite finally destroying democracy.

What use is technology and technical advance if it's used nefariously?

I will always consider the time of post truth, a time where science and field expertise is relegated to a position below emotion to be considerably worse than any previous time I've known. Dismissing comments as "another diatribe about how bad everything is , whilst thinking of some imagined time where everything was better" is a low tier trope even if is is the modern go to response.

Is everything bad? No absolutely not. Are significant and important things bad or worse than they were? Absolutely.

In a word, stagnation. The 90s brought revolutions, the 00s brought refinements, the 10s brought small iterations and imitations/clones of things we'd all seen before.

Also the 10s brought massive price inflation.

I'm mostly talking about tech here. But also can apply to movies. So many reboots, respins, imitations.

The 10s were a decade of lacking imagination, perhaps? I've not been impressed.

Or you could say the 10s were a decade of playing it safe.

Yeh the teens dress like the 60s or 70s or what is that style?

Conformity as well as stagnation is a good word for the 10's from tech to art to fashion and music. As well as social media and opinions

Well that's another decade under the belt. What were some defining points for you. Terrorist attacks were rife for a while, the Tories got back into power after 13 years in the wilderness, Trump became president against all predictions, then all the #metoo and cultural stuff like antifa, BLM. All the leaks also, assange/snowden etc.

What else?

There were plenty of predictions that said Trump would win, but OK.

What else? Well...

* the US elected its first black president, who enjoyed two historic landslide victories and was so successful and popular that everyone wants him back again
* Donald Trump became president, promised a bunch of stuff, and proceeded to do the exact opposite
* Kim Jong Un trolled Trump relentlessly

* the UK voted to destroy itself, then changed its mind, but a bunch of elites in Parliament told us that we have to stick with the first choice anyway even though it's no longer what we want
* the Tories vowed to deliver Brexit and proceeded to miss every single Brexit deadline

* Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon/Andrew McMaster/Paul Harris/Wayne King/Tommy Robinson clocked up 6 convictions and some jail time
* the long arm of the law finally caught up with Julian Assange, who was astonished to learn that tweeting lies, conspiracy theories, and Russian propaganda from the Ecuadorian embassy does not grant you immunity to prosecution

* the Lib Dems made a devil's pact with the Tories and regretted it
* Labour continued to harbour anti-semitism while loudly denying it

* Carl Benjamin single handedly destroyed UKIP
* Nigel Farage single handedly destroyed the Brexit Party
* Jeremy Corbyn single handedly destroyed Labour (I just wish he'd killed off Momentum with it)

* DC finally released a good supervillain movie after decades of failed attempts
* Australian bushfires destroyed an area the size of Switzerland

No, they won democratic elections. That’s how they’re in power. That’s my final word anyway as I don’t want to derail the thread.

No, Trump didn't win a democratic election. He lost the popular vote (which is democratic) and won the electoral college (which is not).

If it was no longer what ‘we’ want, then ‘we’ had the opportunity of potentially reversing it at the general election. Turns out, it seems that wasn’t what ‘we’ wanted at all.

No we didn't, because both major parties are committed to Brexit, and both campaigned on a promise to deliver it. The election was not a second referendum on Brexit.

Stagnation is a good wood to sum it up. Introduction of 4G would be my biggest. 3G just wasn't quite there in terms of speed.

Sir Alex Ferguson retired ending two decades of dominance for Man Utd.

Not as good as the previous decade however. I miss 2 dollars to the pound and petrol at 50p.

The world went soft, complaining about everything and anything. Compo culture soared, everyone gets offended by the most stupid things. Social media ironically made us all antisocial.

The 2010s. Can’t see it going down in the history books as a classic. Stagnation definitely sums it up. Mediocre economic growth, the best of which has been heavily concentrated in London and the South East, plus large cities. Real wages still below the pre-crash peak, some ~11 years later. Social media dominance, identity politics looming large, climate change awareness peaking.

Cult of the “strongman leader” making a comeback. Cynicism of multi-national institutions more marked than ever. The strength of nationalistic forces has been underestimated. High street and traditional retail continuing to deteriorate and change form. Rise in newer leisure-based activities. New economic opportunities have emerged through monetisation of social media. Technology more ubiquitous, cost effective and capable than ever. Lower tax burden, particularly for corporations (too low, in my view. We’ve gone too far in accommodating business here). Government investment present, but still lags behind our best performing peers on the continent.

TV series have massively outshone films in terms of writing, creativity and originality (not that I’m a big TV viewer). Electric vehicles getting there, but still have much, much work to do to convince most of the populace. Renewable energy becoming more prevalent and cost effective all the time. The dramatic phase out of coal powered energy in the UK. Hipsters, and feigned “individualism”. Craft beer, street food, pop up stores. Vaping. Kardashians, TOWIE, Geordie Shore, Love Island. Big bums and yoga pants. Athleisure.

London 2012. MMA, specifically UFC. Women’s football. Winning a World Cup penalty shootout and reaching a Semi-Final. Superhero and comic book flicks. Remakes, reboots and rehashes. Dubai, and the rise of the Middle East as sporting, entertainment and commerce centres. Onesies. Grey paint, grey cushions, grey sofas, grey everything. Small potted cacti. Apple products. Netflix. Public spending cuts. Big society. Food banks. Islamic terror. London street violence. Immigration.

The rise and rise of the Premier League. Manchester City, Leicester City. The relative decline of Manchester United and Fergie’s departure. The unstoppable rise of big tech- Amazon, Google, Facebook. Drones. SUVs and cross over vehicles. Hyundai and Kia becoming fully mainstream. Stock markets hitting all-time highs. The continued rise of China. Airbnb, Uber, Deliveroo. Disruptors. Blockchain. Crypto-currency. Tesla and SpaceX. The revival of interest in manned spaceflight and Mars.

Spotify, podcasts. The dominance of Lewis Hamilton. Ronaldo and Messi. Fitness trackers. British cycling. Wiggo. Veganism. 4G. Gin. Cloud computing. The decline of diesel. Awareness of plastic waste.

Think that’ll do…
