Potentially depending on feedback! I’m looking at a mesh system...I thought this had the second wave of chipsets in it? Qualcomm’s Hawkeye v2.

Now the UniFi access points all mesh, Amplifi really doesn’t have a point anymore. Buy the UDM as the base station and add Beacon HD or Flex-HD access points to make your mesh system. Much better!

Just to be clear, I can’t use a wired backhaul. Has to be WiFi.

As long as there is a wire going into the UDM, and power to everything else, then that will work just fine.

This is what I posted on SNB. Ideally I would want my pc/nas and hue to be hardwired to a satellite.

So I’m racking my brain over which setup to buy. I’ve been waiting for the Asus Zenwifi to come out and that seems to be taking an age.

for whatever reason I can’t use a wired backhaul so would prefer a dedicated wireless AX backhaul.

my current setup:

Downstairs:
Virgin Media superhub3 in modem mode (350mb broadband)

- Asus AC86u
- Panasonic smart TV
- Xbox One
- Apple TV 4K
- Virgin V6 cable tv box

Upstsirs (currently connected via home plug)

- Main PC (used for all kinds of consumption/gaming etc)
- Synology DS918+ which is used to download and runs as a Plex server
- Philips hue bridge

Generic WiFi devices
- Two google homes downstairs
- Two google homes upstairs
- Nest third gen thermostat

So in my usecase I was fast speeds via the backhaul and low latency (as good as can be on WiFi).

my current considerations were:
- new Asus zenwifi AX or also know as AX6600. This seems to be taking an age to come out.
- Orbi 6 though the price is incredible
- RT92u - though doesn’t seem great.
- Amplifi alien though this has no dedicated backhaul which puts me off a bit

I’ve been scowering the web for a while...and can’t quite find the right fit. FWIW I’m having issues with the speed on the home plugs and want rid of them quickly.

WJA96 - is there a scenario were I can get a UDM (looks great) and hardwire my kit upstairs and connect via a wireless backhaul to the UDM?

Yes, but for the money you are wasting on meshing you could pay someone to run a cable. It would be at least 4 times as fast and completely consistent. Even indoor radio systems are subject to atmospheric effects/solar activity and are less consistent as a result.

I’ve tried to get someone to run a cable and most have been woeful. I appreciate WiFi is never going to be quite as good as cabled, it just isn’t an option.

Someone on the SNB forum recommended an Orbi Pro kit, looks ok but I’ve never been a fan of netgear.

Where are you in the North West? If you're Manchester area I can recommend a very good guy I use myself.

I use a guy who is an electrician who switched to doing TV aerial installs, so he's quite happy running cables neatly and he can terminate to either RJ45 or a wall-mounted box, although I do all my own terminations. If you want, I'll PM you his contact details.

So since I got rid of the AC-Pro and started using the Plusnet WiFi im getting a sorry if slowdown streaming on Netflix and prime video. The audio is fine but the video seems to slow down like it's missing frames.
Is that something that can be caused by different WiFi?

Ideally into reasonable looking faceplates.

I like the CCS vertical entry ones. Two or four RJ45’s in a single-gang sized faceplate. You can use a back box if you want, but they’re designed to screw straight onto the wall. The cables go in from below so there’s nothing sticking out to catch the vacuum cleaner on.

It can be caused by slower data transfer speeds, yes. The easy way to check is run a temporary cable and if that solves the issue then you need better WLAN.

WiFi only devices. I might try dealing from 5ghz to 2.4ghz, the router is noisy on the 5ghz band anyway.

Might also try a HD Nano at some point.
