Upcoming 24.5" IPS 1ms Freesync 144hz Monitors

Thank you for the quick reply! Regarding the other reviews, i can't really pay attention to them as they review the 240hz model and not the 144hz. those are different panels and the normal overdrive setting in the 240hz model can be different than the 144hz model. that is why i asked you personally (if you tried it) to see if extreme mode is truly unusable, which will probably mean that normal should be ok :)

good to know that both monitors were quite good. i will also order 2 (for me and my bro) and will update with my review once it arrives.

Ah yea honestly not even tried extreme overdrive tbh. Give us a sec, ill try some fps with extreme and VRB.

Ordered mine today :).

@MegaPinches

Does the box come with an Acer seal or anything on it. Normally check unboxings etc to see if they are supposed to be sealed (to make sure it's not a return), but there just aren't any for this and Acer boxes seem 50/50 whether they have a seal.

@Orof

Tried extreme, can honestly seen no difference between them, trying to move about as fast as I can spinning, maybe I don't have the eye for it, but no ghosting in my eyes.

As for VRB, I can't seem to turn it on, not sure why its greyed out regardless, if anyone knows why?

EDIT: VRB only works at 120Hz, locked out at 144hz.

VRB is limited to 120Hz. Not sure if they are any monitors that can use strobing at 144.

Thank you for testing it out!
you can use testufo in 144hz (when overdrive set to extreme) to look for any overshoot (purpule lines). if there are in fact less artifacts compared to the 240hz model, i'm afraid that the normal mode in the XV253QP might not be fast enough, and the fact that it is locked in the adaptive sync mode to normal really is a deal breaker.

Right I follow you now, I tried all modes normal and extreme overdrive on 144hz and 120hz and VRB on both settings, I didn't see any purple lines, though can't say ive got an eye for what i'm looking for.

One thing noticed was VRB at 120hz was a lot sharper scrolling along than without it on at 144hz.

Someone on reddit reckons extreme has too much overshoot on this specific model.

"That is something that I noticed too, in extreme overdrive there is too much overshoot to be usable."

Without a professional review (which don't seem like they are coming), might just have to try and see if it's ok for you.

Strobing modes are generally always clearer, just give some people headaches (flickering) and look like crap if you can't keep locked to exactly 120fps.

Wow ok, got you. this is an example of extreme overshoot (and ghosting). you can test it here: https://www.testufo.com/ghosting. should be easy to spot (or even record if you move your camera in the correct speed)

Yea extreme setting causes ghosting (edit: overshooting I mean*) in that test, normal mode none is visable to me. Very apparent with extreme mode on.

Hope that answers your question.

overshooting* as ghosting is a different thing where the response time isn't fast enough (maybe you will see it when overdrive is off)
well, thats great news! it means that for this monitor (XV253QP) Extreme should not be used and in fact normal is the best preset, hence it does not matter if you can or cannot change the settings when adaptive sync is on.

Thank you very much! just made my purchase decision easier to make :)

Basically extreme looks crap in that test leaving a trail behind is what I mean, normal looks fine. Got there in the end.

Mine came today.

Not had too much time to play with it, so just quick impressions.

No dead pixels.
Minimal glow or bleed. Dark room with default brightness of 65 (way too bright) and only a tiny bit in the top right really. Not noticible at all in normal use on 35 (a more usable brightness) it's basically gone. Not noticible at all on normal content on either brightness, but overall really good.
Stand is nice, build quality is nice.

G-sync appeers to be working. Info tab shows it's in adapative sync mode when g-sync is switched on in control panel, over drive gets greyed out as well. Tried a game with no v-sync and capped the fps to 90 and it was still smooth, no tearing, no judder, so I assume it's on. Doesn't seem to be anywhere that shows the hz it's currently at (to match fps) so I could test the range, unless I've gone blind. Info tab just seems to show what's it's set to (144hz, 120 etc) and whether adaptive sync is on, doesn't dynamically change it.

Really only negative I can give is there was some smears around the edge from assembly, which I made worse trying to clean :p. Can't really fault acer there though, every monitor I've bought seems to have them and I always make it worse :D.

OSD display Hz setting is in "gaming" tab under the adaptive sync setting.

Yea both mine had a white powder markings in the corners

You just leave it or manage to clean it off. Comes off easy enough with a damp microfibre cloth, but just ended up leaving my own smears so left it alone. Can't see unless light is shining, so just seemed easier to leave it be(only noticed when screen was facing up while putting the stand on).

Checked the hz counter, g-sync is working fine. Tried it with a hat in time and dmc v and hz changes with fps. Tried it with rockt league, rocket league is a strange one. In full screen mode, it does nothing, just sits at 144, but there is still no judder and no tearing, despite v-sync being off. Borderless mode with g-sync enabled for borderless as well, gets it going with that game.

Range on nvidia seems to 60-144 like the aoc. Rocket league has an fps slider, so played around with it. Once you go below 60, lfc comes on and doubles the hz (55fps=110hz). So range on nvidia is 60-144 as far as I can see.

Overall for £270, really nice, was also suprised the base is metal.
