NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Well that's a good point. Possibly not if it's dearer, and reluctantly if it's the same price. If it's a little cheaper then absolutely.

I would bite at a certain point, not sure where exactly that point is though. 2080Ti performance is probably around £600 just now, preferably less with the next gen. 50% more about £850 probably would be my limit.

i'm still gonna say £1500 to £2000 for a 3080ti . if the 75% is true this is nvidia they are good at making prices lol..

There will be buyers regardless of price. I have lost count of the number of people I have seen complain about the cost then buy one anyway.

I think that in the face of the new console launches that Nvidia would be mad to push their prices even higher.

Even keeping them at their current level is going to make consumers think twice about the kind of value they are getting.

I guess we are all just hoping a bit of sanity will return and the next gen will launch at a more reasonable price structure, which means anything less than the current cost :p

Consoles and 3080Ti probably don't share a huge amount of common market... or at least those looking to buy a 3080Ti will do so regardless of whether they pick up a new console too.

Where I believe the new consoles will impact is the mid range market... prices will have to become more sensible there if nvidia want to stop people from just migrating over to console for the next couple of years. So then the question becomes whether the dragging down of prices in the low to mid range will also drag down the top end. I would think the 3070 and 3080 would have to drop down, otherwise people just won't be able to justify the steep premium over eg 3060 or AMD equivalents, but they could probably get away with keeping the 3080Ti at fairly barmy prices because the people buying it just aren't that price sensitive. Most who are would settle for a tier or two down instead.

So the only hope in my mind for decent pricing at the high end is direct competition from AMD. That is the only thing that will directly pull potential flagship 3080Ti buyers away... If AMD bring out a card that falls in the same ballpark as the 3080Ti, then nvidia will no doubt lower prices to try and shut down the threat as we saw with 5700/XT introduction... AMD again does their "haha we bamboozled you" (but actually damn, you got us trying to join you in the high price market) and also drops the price... consumer wins. Hopefully.

Pretty sure it's not true... from what I saw it referred to datacentre and was actually comparing to previous gen, not turing, as a result (plus of course data centre perf doesn't equal gaming perf).

I would expect a big jump given the move to 7nm, but 75% just doesn't seem realistic.

I really can't see how people can compare a console to a gaming PC

How many people do you really think going to replace there gaming PC on there computer desk with a gaming console ?
Consoles are fine for having under the TV for some gaming on the TV, But most people Gaming PC's are setup on a computer desk

I seen a few mates of mine try this over the years but all of them ended up going back to a gaming PC (As nothing can beat playing a FPS with a mouse & Keyboard ;) )

What about if you can plug a mouse and keyboard into it and it has a custom version of Windows on it with Steam, GOG, Epic etc. so you can play all your PC games? Some rumours I've heard suggest Microsoft may try to do something this radical. You then get the best of both worlds: super optimised AAA games and the ability to play all PC games.

Trouble is most people PC's are still used for a lot more then just gaming..

You may not have to spend £500+ on a graphics card though and you'd still get high end performance with raytracing. For the first time ever I'm seriously looking at the consoles, I'm tired of being fleeced on PC even though I didn't always help myself in this regard.

If I was Nvidia I would go back to fleecing the enthusiasts multiple times over the space of a year. Once with the 3080 for £650 or something on the release of ampere. Whack the titan in at an enticing £1400 or something vs 2080ti prices it'll be seen as a bargain. Then come in 6 months later with the 3080ti for £750 or something for those who could wait to upgrade from Pascal/Turing and the 3080.

Less outrage when it's done in stages.

Good pricing, why so cheap?

There will almost certainly be some anti-consumer foul play along the way. God forbid Nvidia just release Ampere for all its worth at a sensible price/volume that's just asking too much it seems.

Nvidia should be careful with their pricing imho.

These days I care more about who offers the best level of performance at the lowest price point.
Truth is you only need to pump out so many FPS at a given resolution to have a enjoyable gaming experience.

The RTX 3080Ti might very well have monstrous uncontested performance, but the real question is do I actually need a graphic card that powerful, that expensive.
Could be I only need the performance of a RTX 3070... or maybe AMD will hit a home run with big Navi and offer the best bang for buck.

It's all to play for with this years upcoming GFX card releases.

I'm not saying people will replace their PC with a console, I'm saying people won't upgrade if it's too expensive.

If your PC is already 'good enough' and you can buy either console for less than half the price of a 3080ti (assuming standard nvidia pricing), it becomes really hard to justify.

Why "replace"? I have a PC and a PS4 connected just fine to the same monitor... both are on my desk.

Even use the same USB sound card + headphones for both of them.

It's weird that people have this idea that a console must be in the living room connected to a TV, and a PC must be on a desk connected to a monitor... there's a lot of cross-over these days. People using their PC with a TV; people using a console with a monitor. Etc, etc.

I don't think any of my consoles support the 3440x1440 resolution of my PC monitor
This may of changed as I haven't checked for a very long time
