What smart Doorbell?

Got a new (still sealed as listed as unwanted gift) Google Nest Hello on the bay, paid total inc Postage of £152, retails at £229, this is newest version (if there is any hardware difference) as it has the new "G" logo not old "nest" logo

I wondered what the little USB port on rear was for (I do not have rest of kit to install yet like Transformer or PSU) so plugged it in and it powered up (seems it can last 10mins) and set it up on my phone initially using the Nest App then swapping to my existing Google Home App (I did not need Migrate a Next Account as it was new not existing but this is now ongoing for all Next users).

I then decided I will not be buying/fitting a Ringer and will simply begetting alerts on my phone and my Google Next Mini's.

The Nest App is still there after install and has more settings so far than the Home App but I can view it in either.

The only downside I can see to this over a Ring is the need to drill a hole in your brick/wood etc to get it power.
You need to drill to fit a Ring Pro.

I'm leaning towards the Nest Hello but need to figure out a way of getting a low voltage feed to it.

Trying to see if I can find a small step down transformer which I can place inside one of the existing outdoor light fittings and then run a feed from that.
What transformer did you go for?

I’ve opted for the Nest Hello, which I’m powering from a plug in transformer seeing as we don’t have an existing wired doorbell with a chime, which I’ll do once we get a porch built in the next year or two. What I was wondering about though is whether anyone uses one of these with a Chromecast? I understand that you can view the camera feed from the doorbell using the Chromecast, but should someone ring the doorbell, will the Chromecast automatically switch over to the doorbell feed?

no it own't get yourself some nest mini speakers you can usually get them on deals for £19 each

We just use the nest small hub got it for just over £40 and it switches to the doorbell feed automatically very handy.

Anyone gone off piste with something not a ring or a nest?

I want something full featured that doesn't require a subscription. I'm perfectly happy to look after recording etc locally if possible. Any other recommendations?

I have a DoorBird which I connect up to my synology NAS for recording. It took me a while to get a good deal on eBay for one as they’re expensive new. Eventually I might connect to a door opener etc, but not yet

one of the best features is being able to answer from your phone. so best going with something mainstream. also cloud recording is much better than local all they would need to do is hit it with a hammer and then cut the cable.

if they hit it with a hammer then nothing further is going to the cloud from that moment. If its locally recorded then its already sitting on your storage.
I can answer my DoorBird from my phone...
