Nicked the idea from a few on here, with the Ikea Top, Drawers and legs. Totally new build, with new monitor, speakers, keyboard, etc. Only thing i kept was the mouse, hah.

Just saw your post on the last page about treating the wood, i was wondering the same thing. It is a bit rough in places isnt it. Was thinking about sanding it down with some smooth emery cloth and a bit of linseed oil.

Unfortunately, my local Ikea is out of Gertons at the moment, so I'm just doing a bit of preemptive investigation. I've been told beech is difficult to stain, but there are a couple of videos on YT of people successfully darkening the Gerton, and adding a few coats of polyurethane (or maybe shellac) as protection. I think I'll be going that route.
