Hello,
I hope everyone is safe and well
I have a pretty old graphics card, a 780GTX HOF. Basically whenever the card reaches 55 - 60c, it crashes completely. First the screen will freeze, then black screen and then forces windows into restart. Now I did have an issue with this card, the fan fell off the heat sink while in my PC. So I managed to secure the fan back on with some bigger screws, cleaned off the existing paste and reapplied new paste, then the fan was secured back on.
I have tried Heaven bench, exact same result. I am monitoring via MSI afterburner.
What is interesting, is my wifi which is connected to the front USB is always disconnected when the PC restarts. I have to take the stick out and put it back in a few times before it will work again.
I am pretty confident that my card has the heat-sink connected properly as my idle temp is about 25 -30c, and the temp takes about 2 -3 mins to reach 55 - 60c, I was thinking if the heat-sink wasn't on properly it idle would be much higher and reach higher temps within seconds and potentially fry.
I will double check my heat-sink is on correct but can anyone else think of anything else that would maybe cause this?
Surely a safe temp for this card would 70 - 80c, maybe ever higher?
The only thing that I can think is MSI afterburner has a delay in reporting and the card is reaching much higher temps causing the crash.
Any help would be big help here.
