Branded v Supermarket fuel

Definitely not a myth. I've seen a filter so badly contaminated that it collapsed due to vacuum induced by the pump.
I wasn't saying that fuel filters cannot get blocked, I was responding to a poster who was worried about getting crud in his fuel tank from a petrol station that could block his fuel filter, and explaining it can't actually happen (any particulate small enough to get through the fuel filter in the pump and into the car's tank would also be small enough to get through the fuel filter in the car, so couldn't block it).

Yea it's not exactly an independent opinion lol

"Buy the stuff from the guys I work for!"
Where have I said that ?

I’m trying to give evidence based on technical reasoning. It doesn’t personally affect me what fuel anyone buys.

But it will affect you if you use lower quality. You just won’t notice it and claim ‘its fine’. Unless of course you are unlucky enough to buy fuel with silicon in

You do realise you're essentially saying that we should ignore all the advice from all the independent/unbiased experts over the years who always say that there's nothing wrong with supermarket fuel/etc.

No, because that's not what I said at all.

As the blends are all kept a "secret" it's all just rumour and opinion. They can't back up their claims unless they make it public. But then it could be a secret because it's all the same :D

All meet the UK fuel spec of EN590 or EN228 so you are right if I have incorrectly made out they are all bad. And compared to other parts of the work the UK fuel is very good.

If it cokes up the engine leading to a repair bill that far outweighs the saving on fuel then it's a false economy.

Me? I'll carry on putting some good quality fuel in to prevent the injectors and EGR clogging up down the line. The odd tank of supermarket won't do it much harm. I'll also spend a bit more on Heinz baked beans, instead of Asda value ones as Heinz taste nicer, despite the main ingredient being the same.
