More than 3 years on...and the 1080ti is still beasting it...

Meh, 25% of a product cost for warranty isn't the smartest deal in the world either.

It's better than throwing a failed GPU in the dustbin after 3 months because it had no warranty. You'd then have to pay 100% extra when you buy another GPU to replace it.
It's well worth paying 25% more to stop that happening in my opinion. For piece of mind.

Really? So you'd happily spend 400 quid on a card with no warranty as opposed to 500 quid for one with warranty? I'd say that's not very smart, but if you have money to burn then who's to say not to do it? Bit of a moot point though, because if you had the money to burn you'd not be quibbling over a hundred quid...

If you are going to overspend on a dead end GPU, why not spend the £100 and get the card with Ray Tracing, DLSS, VRSS (makes a big difference in VR games) And full support for all the DX12 Ultimate features. The Xbox series X and the PC are going to be using the same version of DX12 Ultimate. So there are going to be games using these features.

And as well as all that you get a brand new GPU with full warranty.

I’m not a fan of paying 25 percent for warranty. Far too high imo.

I’m buying an LG 77 incher soon. If they tell me to pay 1250 for warranty I’ll tell them to do one lol.

Fyi id get the 2070s but I can see the clear logic of going for 1080ti.

Factor in current supply and demand also. I had every intention of watercooling whatever card I was going to buy anyway, which is personal choice. If you take that out of the equation the cost of the card isn't £400 it's the lower end of £300. What's more nuts is OcUK finding 7 of these in the warehouse. Listing them at £599 each selling 5 and then the remaining 2 at £799.
that is nuts and you don't just find them they will have been doing something

I am going to be spending £400-£500 soon when the RTX 3070 comes out (pretty sure it won’t be more than that). Will be brand new shiny tech, have much better performance and come with 3-5 years warranty. Oh and it will be brand new.

Happy to play less demanding games until then. Hell, summer is already nearly here anyway, so will likely do less gaming anyway. Will be lucky to get through all the games I have installed on Steam until these hit the market.

What’s to say Nvidia doesn’t push the stack up again? £400-500 might not get you a RTX 3070 next time round. That sort of cash used to get you an 80/ti just 2 gens ago. It’s not like they have any real competition these days above the low-mid range.

Highly unlikely.

It's not just 25% for warranty though is it?

You are also getting a brand new card.

Would you pay 25% less than what you can buy a new oled for a second hand one with no warranty and possibly been used in a commercial setting 24/7, also it has older tech, runs hotter, consumes more power and is louder? Its also up to 3 years older?

It's not just 25% for warranty it's the fact it's brand new and better too. All of that means an extra 25% is a bargain.

The right price for a 1080ti used is £200. That's for a decent one a blower card would be £150 used.

it's a shame the second hand market doesn't work like that. Prices are dictated by how much things cost to begin with and then how much people are prepared to pay.

I get that but it's quite frankly idiots out there paying £400 for used ones. I was selling a card on ebay the auction ended yetsterday. I got a message the day before it ended from one guy saying he didn't realise what it was and wanted to cancel his bid. Bare in mind my listing had a perfect title explaining what it was and I also took a picture of the box which has all the specs and the name of the card on it, etc.

He said it was his first time building a pc so he didn't know what it was. i told him he shouldn't be bidding on things if he didn't know what they were. how stupid can you be to just see a GPU and just bid on it without doing any research then deciding to do the research afterwards?

I then had a message yesterday asking if it worked. i messaged back saying does it say anywhere in the title or description that it's broken?

It's clueless ignorant morons out there buying them. They are so stupid they pay more on ebay for second hand stuff that you can buy brand new sometimes.

Animal crossing - sold for £49 on ebay - you can get it on amazon for £44 and it was in stock when the auction ended - who is buying these if not idiots?

Same goes for GPU's idiots are paying nearly new prices for second hand stuff. I bought the GPU at a good price and sold it on ebay for 43% more than what I paid for it. That just proves people are paying too much for them. 43% more than what I paid for it.

It's why now if I ever want to sell my item for good money forget gumtree - it's full of peasants and time wasters. Just auction it on ebay. Be prepared for multiple messages from morons and the odd moron who will end up winning then not paying and backing out.

I can still see the logic for going for the 1080ti. How much was the 1080ti selling for? Was it 375 or 400? 2070S is is like £550 or if you're lucky £510?

A GPU at the end of the day to some is just a disposable PC component which you're probably going to replace in a couple of years.

The £150 you save, you can pump into games, RAM, an SSD etc.

There's worse. "Xbox box" comes to mind :D
I read a listing for a 2080Ti yesterday that was completed and sold for £700. In the listing detail in capital letters it said something like "This is a photo of a 2080Ti graphics card only" lol
Another sold for £578 that said in the listing "I have some issue with my paypal account ,so i can only accept paypal (friends and family ) or bank transfer"

So yes, there are stupid people buying things for stupid money all the time.

No, at launch the 1080Ti was something like £700 then quickly went up due to bitcoin mining to over £1000.
An overlocked 1080Ti hit's ~10k score in Timespy with a 2070S managing around 10k also
GPUs need replacing every 3 years (that's me anyway) but RAM, SSD, CPU, Motherboard a lot less. I've had my motherboard, cpu and ram for 5 years now and there bought second hand. Advances in GPU tech is much quicker than the rest and offers higher fps and/or gpu features

This. it is used electronic, the prices people are paying for these is crazy. And in some cases even more than original rrp. Once prices go up it takes a while for them to drop back but maybe this worldwide recession will eventually sort things out. Demand is still high now probably because people still think they will have jobs to go back to when the government money runs out.
