Is it worth cashing in my 2080ti for a RTX 3080? Use a RTX 2060 in the short term?

yeah but thats B grade, they put the items in there and dont change the price so it will be the original price it was at sale at a couple of years ago or more.
B grade golden rule always post in CS forum and put an offer in the for item, 9/10 you will get an accept, if not they will give you a counter offer. Never buy it at the price shown. Should really be a sticky somewhere with this the amount of times I've told people who are not aware.

My B grade 5700xt I got for £275 (b grade price originally £329)

it's rare but it can happen but I agree. those looking for value for money and good resale values shouldn't be buying top end stuff and that goes for everything. always buy what is considered best value.

Crucial P1 1 TB is the best <£100 SSD in terms of value for money
I tend to use their lists to gauge what parts I should be buying. It gives the best performance for your £

That is a pretty big come down, I don't think I could cope with anything less than a GTX 970 / RX 480, I would need at least on average 60FPS on modern games, the gtx 960 would be tooo much tweaking.
I didn’t plan on playing modern games until I get the 3080 Ti. Just some FIFA/PES and older games which the 960 can handle. Modern games can wait a few months!
I think the 2080ti will 'hold its value' fairly well. Once you factor in buying the RTX 2060 cost and trying to sell it on, it seems like a lot of faff to try and play the market to be up a £100 or £200 quid.
I'm planning to sell my 2080 zotac when the new cards launch potentially but im in no rush.
GPU wise I'm honestly starting to think whats the point would rather pump money into display and sound.

My 4690k is limiting it a lot. My friend has a 1050Ti/i3 8100 and gets about 20 fps less than my 4690k/2080 combo at 1080p high refresh rate.
So would only need a value card to tie me over until 3000 series comes out.

I see a lot of used graphics card, I sold the RTX 2060 I originally bought to my friend and bought in a cheap RTX 2060 Super for under £250, the big faff was the tweaking to play at 4k, But I kind of enjoyed it, the 2060 super is a great card, but in no way would I of sold my rtx 2080ti if I was going to pay closer to £390 for a new rtx 2060 super...that would not make any sense to me.

I've just done this myself, i downgraded 2080ti to a vega 56,will do just fine for a few months before i choose which card of the next gen to get, whether its amd or nvidia, who knows...
Good call. Vega 56 will depreciate what, £50 at most. The 2080Ti will depreciate a hell of a lot more than that
As long as one can stomach playing some older games for a few months, a nice saving can be made
It all depends though, for some £300-£400 is chumps change and they don’t mind.

I guess that once the new cards come out, if it turns out that people could have held on to their RTX 2080ti's for a few extra months and still sold at around £900, then that is where it kind of did not make sense to sell three months prior to the new released cards, I think it generally makes sense if you have a good backup card to use in the meantime, that way you kind of can live with it.
But when the new cards hit the review sites and if it turns out you can have almost 2080ti gaming for say £649ish + a full warranty, then hmmm it kind of made it worth while....but if it is £499 for 2080ti type power but perhaps with only 8gb of ram, then for me, I would be over the moon.
All ways round, I feel I have edged my bets, my guess, worse case is £900 for 2080ti type gaming card from the new 30X0 range of cards..

Now wondering if it's worth selling, grabbing a £150 GPU and waiting for 3000 series. For £500, that "should" be a 3070, which "should" be close to 2080Ti performance.
Even if it is slightly less than 2080Ti performance for £500 I will at least have the advantage of the full warranty which for me is worth it as the thought of a £500+ card dying and not having warranty pains me!

I think you might be a bit optimistic at £499 for 2080ti type of power, my guess for £499 you will see a RTX 2080 SUPER SUPER with 8GB not 11GB....basically something that is somewhere between the current RTX 2080 Super and the RTX 2080Ti...but of course that is pure speculation.
Like always, NVIDIA will deliver higher performance but also at higher prices. NVIDIA doesn't usually offer a significant Price/Performance improvement at launch of a new generation.
Call me crazy, but if RTX 3070 is as fast as RTX 2080 Ti, then we'll see it at £999. RTX 3080 could be 30% faster than 2080 Ti, but it will also be £1500.
