Ryzen 5 3600 with MSI B450 TOMAHAWK - cooler suggestions pls

I have a thermaltake versa h18 case with two 120mm fractal fans in the front as intake and two CM master fans at the back and top for exhaust.

Its the 2600 but i dont think the 7nm 3600 would be hotter than this. It does a pretty good job. The stock cooler goes to about 75 so this brings it down a lot on load. I can test any particular application as well if you would like like 3D Mark or PC Mark.

The Ryzen 3000 series does run a bit hotter than previous chips from what I can tell after reading various posts to do with heat, voltage and boosting. My i7 6850k (14nm 140W) ran cooler than this chip, and Broadwell-E isn't exactly known for it's low temps.

I am using a Nocuta NH-D15S with my 3600, it never dropped from max boost clock at any load and stay below 60c even in stress tests.

May be a bit overkill?

I'm definitely thinking about buying a new cooler now. I'll be sticking with an air cooler though. I was looking at various Noctua models and the Dark Rock series from Be Quiet! The Scythe Mugen 5 looks like quite a substantial cooler for the price too. Basically I want an air cooler that will do a better job than the Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure without costing more than say £80 or so. It's the first time the Matterhorn has let me down as I've used them with the i7 4790K, i7 6850K and a Xeon E5 1660v2... It never broke a sweat keeping these chips under control and that's with a low'ish fan speed tooo (around 1000rpm compared to 1500rpm with my Ryzen).

My Intel chips never went crazy hitting max boosts and voltages when just opening the browser or a new window either. I wouldn't be surprised if my Ryzen is hitting [email protected]+ just typing this.... :D.

If youre open to an AIO I have an X62 Kraken and would recommend it, keeps CPU cool as a cucumber haha. And actually really helps keep air flow in the case good

hey guys just resurecting this - the standard cooler is so loud and throttles up and down so im looking for something better.

Any surggestions for 2020? same spec as OP

esports duo is still a great coooler and can be order directly from the manufacturer if stock is low in the uk.

They come from Germany but the last one I ordered took about 3 days via DHL with no customs.

I'm getting same setup and looking at Mugen 5 the edition with 2 fans, Dark rock 4 or Thermalright Macho all looks pretty decent between 40-55£

I ended up getting the Thermaright Macho SBM, its one of the few air coolers thats short enough to fit inside a Lian-Li Pc011D.

For 6/8 core Arctic Freezer 34 is bang per buck choise at "expensive" £21.

Alpenfohn Brocken 3 would be good step up for higher models.

Scythe Mugen 5 would be also well priced near top level cooler and especially nice compact.

But its optimized for monolithic die/centered heat source and oward concave heatspreader Intels and has convex base, which isn't good fit for Zen2's off center heat sources chiplet design and AMD's flattish/even smidge convex from center heatspreader.
Though that could be solved with some lapping.
