I'd get them to do it before handing it over, on the very small off chance anything is picked up then it's on them to sort it.
That's what I did when I picked my car up last year it was due it's first MOT about 6 weeks later and it's next service within 1000 miles, asked for both to be done before I collected it and I'd sign the paperwork there and then.

My MOT is due at the end of September so I'm going to stop driving it in case it's illegal or is unsafe.

reminds me of my elder brother buying his first car... took it for a service and came home steaming took my mum and dad about an hour to get him to calm down, the garage said it needed 2 tyres and a part exhaust, he had been trying from work to get his insurance to pay for it, in his words ...that what car insurance is for isnt it. (was 35 years + ago )

I can just imagine how the phone call went when he rang them up trying to put in a claim for 2 new tyres due to the previous ones being worn out.
