Upgrading my gaming rig, play sim racing games rf2, ACC, AMS2 etc

the main component will be Ryzen 3900x

from what i can see 3600 ddr4 seems the memory to go for

So which memory

Which mATX mobo

the rest i will reuse. Sticking with 1080ti until 3080ti comes out

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £270.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

5+3 phase set up straight . But to be honest would spend the extra £20 and grab the mATX Aorus Pro that uses doubles for 10 phases + 3
Board can handle 4733hz ram if you want to play around but most likely for Zen3/ up coming APU

The auros elite got pretty ropey VRM so probably not gonna handle any kind of overclock on the 3900x or potentially can thermal throttle or need fan blowing over the VRM heatsink.

better go for MSI B550m Mortar. Though there is a big wait.

The mortar is currently in stock.

Just saw. I checked it just Monday and it’s out of stock everywhere. Should be a decent little board the mortar.

I will definitely move onto it once the 4000 CPUs are out and the 3900x gets reduced further.

Yep in stock I've got the WiFi version of the mortar it's a great mobo.

3600 CPU for now will change when the new ones are released.

better then b450 vrm baar ITX boards. and thats b550 entry with better PCB pathways for ram
personally would choose b550 (msi/aorus) instead of b450. BIOIS updates always favour newer releases first

That B550m VRM is a straight lift from their B450m VRM 10+2 digital VRM. Cheap and not really good for overclocking

their (Gigabyte/Aorus) b450m was 4+3 . Aorus elite is 5+3 and Aorus Pro is 10+3 via doublers . b450 Toma is 4+2 phases. Carbon is 4+2 but arranged in a better fashion with more chokes.

B450 Toma was highest/high end for b450. Aorus elite is entry for b550

You are right. 10+3 is the auros pro. Auros elite is 5+3. All of them are Onsemi ones. Pretty cheap

in comparison, the mortar has 8+2 and is rated 60A Renesas. Not the most extreme ones you can get which are 90A/phase. But 60a is loads.

hopefully the 4000 chips are better clocking with lower power etc.

Upgrading to AMD for gaming? As far as I'm aware, intel still seems holds the crown in gaming performance doesn't it?
The idea of gaming merely meaning frame rates is weird, especially when it is barely anything. Sure I speak for many, but heat and power consumption is one variable I do consider, also price/performance amongst other things. But if anyone just wants the former alone, sure go for it.

Trying to understand your reply. Are you saying the a 3700x is fine for now but a 3900x will be more future proof?
That’s what he s implying. Next gen consoles are all based on 8C CPUs. So games will start to be optimised for lots of cores. Therefore by that extension our PCs should have a few cores more to run the OS and other services, obscene websites, malware, virus and other crap at the background.

that MSI B550m Mortar is the best board matx B550 you can get in terms of performance and value when paired with a 3900x or 3950x. Solid VRM, solid heat sinks. 2 full speed m.2 slots with one of them being gen4. The bottom PCIe slot will be disabled if you run 2 m.2 drives tho.
