So I've got a bit of a weird situation with NVIDIA right now over a refund in error.

I received an email this evening where they have refunded my purchase of an RTX 2080ti Founders Edition (Purchased in May) in error to the Credit Card that I made the original purchase with. I've checked my Credit Card and yep they've made a refund to my Credit Card, fair enough clearly an error as I haven't returned anything. However they are asking for the funds back via Wire Transfer to a bank account.

Now of course this would mean I'd have to send the funds back via my Current Account where the refund hasn't been made to. The funds have now been made available on my Credit Card again and I am absolutely fine with them claiming these funds once more.

Having spoken to their Customer Services team this evening apparently they have no option request the funds again from that method of payment. My thoughts were I could also just return card to them if that also can resolve the issue. They are currently escalating the issue which hopefully will come back with some sensible solution.

I just think it's unreasonable to agree to sell something via one method of payment, make a mistake further down the line on your end and then request payment via another method.

Has anyone experienced anything like this in the past? If so any advice?

Are you 100% sure, without a shadow of a doubt that it is actually Nvidia?

Yep 100% sure, it's the company they use for their UK distribution. I won't mention because competitor etc but all correct contact numbers called and the refund is in the account via exactly the same reference it went out.

It's up to them to fix then. Sucks to be them, right? Get them to send you another 2080ti and MM it. :)

One thing to consider is that you may not have the cover/protection that purchasing with a credit card provides.

If it were me and could do without the card for a little while, I would send the card back and buy a new one, or not and wait for the next big thing.

Again a point I raised on the call, "it's ok we can put a note on the order" was the response.

I think you're right though if returning the card is an option it might be the best way to deal with this unless of course there's nothing they can really do.

I would say they can either take the funds back off the card or your send the card back to them. Wouldn’t agree to a bank transfer as it’s not ur problem they messed up.

You should not do a transfer of funds, tell them they would need to contact your card provider. As doing this could be seen as money laundering, do not do it.
Money owned to a card should be returned to the original card.

You have nothing to do, it was their mistake and they alone should fix it not you.
It is their mistake and you should not have to fix their own mistake.

Tell them that the purchase of the 2080ti has left you bankrupt and can't possibly pay them back, and they should think about this in future before hiking their prices such silly levels.

Yep I also wouldn't do this. When you buy something they can only refund to the original payment method.

This is no different to me, they wouldn't refund you to another payment method as a policy.

Tell them you'll return the 2080 TI when the new 3 series cards arrive! :D

Quoted for the truth lol.

But seriously - I'd either return the card or just leave them to sort it.
