Agree. When I got a good job I could have afforded all these great cars but purchasing a house became a bigger priority. To that end I managed to pay off my mortgage on my 35th birthday, so now have a nice 4 bedroom detached house with no mortgage! After that I did get a few nice motors.

My mate has a brand new 150k lambo yet lives in a tiny 100K semi, that makes no sense to me.

We all do things differently and it’s about what makes us happy.

If your mate has no kids then I guess he does not need a bigger property and his enjoyment in life is his car, so he does what suits him, end of day he has a 150k asset that won’t change much in value due to nature of certain marques of cars, so he can always sell the car and get a bigger property if needs must.

I’ve always loved cars so is where I have some of my money and have around 225k in cars now all owned outright and I own two properties (no mortgage) and from a very young age I setup a private pension that I plan to take around 50 which will give me a great older lifestyle, I have no kids but if that ever changes I’ll be keeping the cars as well but no plans on sprogs.

We all do different things with our money maybe one day I’ll sell the properties and cars and just buy a huge house but that seems totally pointless when there is only two of us and our home is already a bit big for us both but we like privacy and a large outdoor space which it has and we simply leave a couple rooms unused.

OT but fair play you've done really well for yourself chap. Just interested is this through working at ocuk or investments or a bit of everything and some good luck? Forgive the noseyness but I find it interesting to see how peeps have made a success of themselves at such a young age.

Looks in great condition, so much fun to be had tooling around in a van :) Any trips planned?

Thanks mate :)
Yep it is in pretty good nick all in all. Interesting discovering the various mods its had over its lifetime.. Such as the separate loo fill tank it has. Autosleeper Symphonies don't have separate loo fill tanks :D

We had a smaller van before which we sold for only £300 less than we paid for it several years ago even though it needed easily £2k of welding doing (which we were honest about when we sold it!) and would have been going to a few smaller music festivals this year which obv aint gonna happen, but we'll have a few trips out for the odd weekend away of mooching about a sitting in a boozer.

Bit of everything, have a great job, my Mrs works too so between us both we bring in a lot of cash each month.
I've also had investments, did well on bitcoin some years ago which I've now sold up.
Invested also from age of 16 for a private pension so that at age 50 I am pretty sorted for remainder of my life, starting so young meant the amount invested each month was pretty low, but now for instance I put £750 a month of my own money into private pension, which then gets government contribution, plus I then also get tax relief end of every year also because even though I am PAYE I still do self assessment every year to maximum tax relief and government contributions but this is something I started recently with the help of a financial advisor to truly max things out, then I have the usual Nest pension too which is 5% of my wage and OcUK also contribute, in the end it means I can retire at 50 if I wish.

Plus getting money in the way I'd rather not when close relatives pass away.

All in all hard work, some sound investing from an early age and some luck too. :)

Very similar to me, and probably many others on here. I just don't feel the need to post all my high value possessions online and provide proof that I have paid for them in full, smacks a little of insecurity...

Sometimes I guess but at the end of the day it is nice to see stuff that people have bought and can stimulate conversation. Doesn't always have to be negatives to everything.

I dunno, most people have a passion. The majority of the posts on this thread relate to these passions whether it's tech, cars, cycling... Fishing even! And in the case of Gibbo, it always seems very much a case of working hard and being proud of achieving it.

TBF he doesn't post a car or a house every week, he just happens to have done a couple of cars recently!

Insecurity eh? It has been noted. :p

Tell me about it, my 2 children are costing me circa £30k per year in fees for private day schooling!

To be fair, most people on these forums arent representative of the rest of the population.

People like Gibbo will be i the top 1% earners in the country, certainly as a household.

Another recent purchase, some stands for the rear speakers from the LG SN11RG and they work a treat, great buy at under £50, means can position them either side the sofa or behind it.

How do you come to that conclusion?

Due to what he posted and his spend on houses/cars/pensions during the years. You dont think you get all of that with a disposal income of a £1000 per year? In cars alone he has spent over 8 times the Uk average wage plus over £10k a year into his pension.

You do realise in this country you only need a household income of £160k per annum to be in the top 1%?

I don;t consider myself and my partner "that well off" and certainly not in Gibbo's league but some years we have surpassed that when my partner was self employed 5 years ago (she is doing a MBA atm so we have probably dropped to the top 20%).

I suspect most people will be surprised its a low as £160k to hit the top 1%, clearly you are?

I'm aware of the amount. I personally don't trust what people post on internet forums, and certainly don't use it as an indicator to their income, nor care!

Is he your idol or something ;)

No but you asked the question how I came to that conclusion about him. The fact that I have been on these forums almost as long as him, seen some of his car purchases in the flesh (so he definitely isnt making them up) and I know what he does for a living .

I was just pointing out to people reading this thread that Gibbo doesnt represent a typical member of the public as he is likely to be in the top 1% of household earners.

Whereas you are a "mr nobody" who has posted that your situation is very similar to yours. As you say, I don;t trust what people post on internet forums nor care what you earn ;)

150k Lambo 100k semi sounds like an absolute dream to me.

Although surely even oop north a 100k semi has to be in an extremely dodgy area? Even the cheapest areas here you won’t get a studio for 100k.

Enough talk about all the expensive stuff, earnings etc - I need to first have the link to the Enterprise Lego please.
