So as we're approaching the launch of the new consoles I just found out my current HDR tv isn't showing full HDR as it doesn't have the physical hardware to perform it, so it always seemed very bland. I recently confirmed the status with an expert.

So I'm looking for a new HDR ready tv for when the new consoles come out. Is anyone buying a new HDR tv? Or if you currently have an HDR tv that you're happy with what is the make and model then I can give it a look.

I feel ripped off with my current TV (LG 43UJ670V) that it is listed as having HDR but it can't physically do it :(

All depends on your budget, but as the above poster said I have a 55" C9 for my man cave and a 65" in the living room. Great great TV's.

You’re going to need around at least 1k to do hdr justice. I use a Samsung ks8000 which has great hdr impact when gaming though I have been gaming on a non hdr tv for the past few months.

I noticed the prices are getting fairly high now for TV's and especially the size of them these days.

I'll have to keep my eyes open to see if I can see any offers.

Thanks for posting some suggestions I'll look them up.

LG CX is the best gaming TV on the market:), depends on your budget, C9 is great as well.
Yeah I guess with it being the newer 2020 model. It's a toss up for me whether I chuck the extra money at the CX where before I was definitely going for the C9. I've already told my wife that I may go for it and she was like meh its only a few hundred quid more. I'm in the same boat as the OP where I'm looking to upgrade my tv for the PS5 launch. I think my amp will need an upgrade as well - we haven't had that conversation yet :)

Isn't the C9 pretty much the same as the CX? It has hdmi 2.1 and I can't imagine the imagine quality being much different to the CX tbh.

Both pretty similar, but I believe the CX may have slight improvements in picture quality, likely marginal though.

If DTS sound is a big thing for you, then the CX doesn't support it.

Currently the CX in some places is £1599, a £200 saving, bargain for the latest Oled from LG, will have slightly longer support in the future than the C9 so I know which I would get.

I posted this in another thread:

If you game a lot, you might want to take into account ‘input lag’, which equates to the response time between your controller and what you see on screen.

It sounds silly but.... size. You only need a big TV for a big ‘TV room’. Think how it’ll look with everything else.

Also, TVs can get really expensive and in all honesty I’m not 100% sure it’s worth it beyond a certain point. I think I paid around £1k for a Samsung KS8000 or similar about 3/4 years ago, as at that point the OLEDs were from around £1800, which is a massive jump, and I do not regret going for the cheaper option for a second and I actually rank it amongst my very best purchases. It looks brilliant.

The only downside with LCDs is that when you have a very dark screen, such as during credits at the end of films, you get a ‘light glow’ around the lighter areas. This is not actually an issue for 99% of content that you will be watching.

This one. Possibly old hat now *shrug* but I think it’s brilliant.

I’ll add though that your room needs to be really bright to use HDR in my experience. If you have a dark cinema style room, the additional light/brightness used for HDR can singe your eyes.

I went for the CX in the end. Got a nice annual bonus from work this week. Arrives tonight I am so excited. It will be a step up from my 42" Panny plasma that I've had for 11 years!

Nice, it's a great TV, currently playing Ghost of Tsushima on mine, looks stunning.

When I am done with TLoU2 I might trade it in for Ghost of Tsushima. I've never seen HDR up and running so I am looking forward to trying that out. I've got Spiderman, God of War, HZD and Uncharted 4 ready to go digitally - been picking them up cheap over the months waiting for this moment.

TLOU 2, still to play that but I will wait till I see it cheaper on PSN.

From experience of owning both a QLED Samsung and an LG B7, the Samsung is definitely the better tv for gaming. Much brighter for HDR and no image retention
