Which HDR TV shall I get?

No, as you need it bright to actually get the benefit of seeing the brighter toned colours on the telly.

From a very quick google this explains the issue.

Put it another way, you CAN reduce the brightness but potentially at the expense of the HDR.

I have the C9 and have set 3 presets to cater for the brightness of the room. I guess being comfortable on the eyes is more important to me than the absolute best HDR experience.

I'm in the same boat as OP, thinking of upgrading my TV for the series x. I've not got the space for an enormous TV though and would like to get it in the recess next to the chimney. At a push I could just squeeze a 49" in there but it'd look a bit shoehorned. There's not much to write home about sub 48" though. There's a new 43" from Sony that has some of the better features (100hz, HDMI 2.1 etc) but not sure if it's got VRR.

I'm probably going to buy a Sony XH9005, i'm just waiting to make sure Sony releases the HDMI 2.1 software update..

I reckon that'll be a good shout. My xe was great. Better motion handling than my C9 by far. OLED is great but the LGs suck in that area.

I'm still on the Sony 42" 1080p TV i bought with my original Xbox One in 2013, so any 4k TV will be a big upgrade for me :)

I was also looking at the LG CX or C9 as everyone recommends them, but for the extra money it would cost i don't think it's worth it to me. The 55" Sony is £1k, the 48" CX is £1.5k.

Interesting side by side here ->

I am gobsmacked at how nice the 55" CX is compared to my 11yr old 42" plasma. The CX 55" is £1,599 at J Lewis but tbh whatever you end up getting - as long as it's a decent brand will be a massive upgrade. TV tech has moved fast in the last 5-10 years. I used Rtings.com to make my final decision. Really good site.

Just ordered a CX 65” OLED for the PS5 after reading up on what’s the best about/posting in the home cinema thread, spent more then I Thought but I’m sure it will be worth it.

Also ordered a Sonos arc soundbar to go with it :D

Got the LG W7 at the moment and trying to decide whether to go for the GX rather than WX this time around as it's a decent chunk cheaper and the panels are identical. Showed the missus the CX and she's said no as she's so used to how slim the W7 is so that's out of the running. Anyone got the GX or seen one in the flesh by any chance?

Expensive day then! :D

just a bit! Moving into house on Thursday, so had all that stuff to buy, and managed to squeeze in a ps5 pre order and 3080 too haha safe to say my bank account is now empty! :D

went and collected the tv from curry’s, had to drive home in my estate with my nose touching the steering wheel haha

Any recommendations in the 43" screen size, originally I was looking for 40" but the choice is awful so going to try and squeeze a 43" in.

The LG budget models seem to be ok once all the motion smoothing rubbish is turned off and there doesn't seem be much difference between models apart from aesthetics until you get into the bigger screen sizes

Try here to give you some ideas. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-size/40-42-43-inch

Been looking as well, the best on paper seems to be the new Sony KD43XH8595BU, 100hz etc, not seen any real reviews yet though.

Yeah its hard at this size, reading on AVForums they pretty much say to just buy the Hisense as all the models at this screen size are now budget options.

The Phillips ambilight system looks quite nice though but no idea how it would handle gaming.

I'm not up to speed on 4k TV's (still 1080p) but is the 1440p resolution of the Series S widely supported?

I'm either going for the Sony (100hz) or bite the bullet and try and squeeze the 49" LG in, that would mean a new tv unit though. I can't believe there's no market for smaller high spec TVs.

Isn't the C9 pretty much the same as the CX? It has hdmi 2.1 and I can't imagine the imagine quality being much different to the CX tbh.

I believe the CX model has a reduced HDMI 2.1 version on the sly versus the C9 from 2019 to cut costs.

C9=48 Gigabytes per second on HDMI 2.1
C = 40 Gigabytes per second on HDMI 2.1

However, this reduction may not be noticeable to the normal user. Or in many situations.

Can vouch for the OLED after spending a couple of days with my cx 65, can’t believe I didn’t get an oled sooner it’s unreal! Roll on the PS5 :D
