Car ideas

Well as much as I’d love the M135i, after much research I just cannot justify upping the budget that much for one, then there is the tax price, rise in insurance cost and lastly the MPG. It’s probably something I’d regret after the initial honeymoon period.

if I was to stay with the 1 series idea, what is the next best engine/model to choose?

Thanks again

Have you test driven a 1 series @Andybtsn ? Only ask as the footwell area is narrow, I personally hated that but loved the rest of the car.

Octavia VRS?

Basically a golf but cheaper.

Toys in that price range leave a little to be desired, but what do you really want? Mines has the usual of DRL, light bending, dual climate. Though looking at prices, they have creeped up a little since I bought mine.

Forget the lower model 1 series, you'll be paying for the badge more than any actual quality or additional features.

Check out a golf, they're fully spec's as standard, great quality, decent to drive, all rounder :)

If you were after premium for your budget then spend half on something similar to that 325i I linked earlier, 1 owner great condition, to avoid landing a dog/money pit.

I haven’t tbh. Just been watching/reading all reviews possible! I’m 6’4 so yeah it would be something I’d certainly do before jumping into anything.

I will check the VRS out, ex work colleague had one and seemed to love it.

Thanks. I’ve always found Golfs just bland with minimal toys inside, I’ll have a look at them as it’s been a while.

To be fair, they are still bland but you do get gadgets now.

If you're wanting a bit more fun and engagement then the Mazda 3 is a nice car to drive, but you compromise spec and quality. Me? I'd add a few k to the budget and scout a nice Evo VI :D

I was hoping this thread went along the lines of one car being recommended and everyone quoted repeating the same car, this would have been much more simple :)

Golf over a non-M135i surely? The Golf May appear bland at first but won’t it be the better car? It’ll be practical for starters and probably more comfortable.

Isn’t the Leon a less bland Golf that is better value for money?

Hmm the Leon Cupra seems to start at 10k.

Let's not forget, as Clarkson advised us, the Golf GTI is better than an M135i because it can drive in a straight line without crashing.

you could look at a 130i although most are high mileage now , would be a waiting game for one with upgraded audio etc.

saying that mileage isn’t really an issue on them as there are no notable engine problems

As Iv already said a Mazda 3 MPS would be a good call. Does the car need to be a hatch back, with 5 seats. As already stated it would be cramp in the back with most of the cars that have been listed? Will you regularly have 3 people in back?

What’s the need for 5 seats? These cars are going to be cramped in the back

I can think some of larger cars that would fit the bill rather well.
