Car ideas

As said already, it’s a minefield sometimes. Have you considered going for a JDM car? Sometimes you get a decent car performance wise and they will be in a cheaper tax bracket. But the compromise might have to pay a bit more for the fuel and it will be an older car. A Civic type R was mentioned earlier, you can get a Honda Accord Euro R for the sort of money your talking about? I know this one is no longer available, but just thought you’d get a good idea.

Thanks, I haven't really thought about that option. I have a few weeks/months to ponder different ideas anyway. I've decided to make it a clean £10k too to find something. Its near the the M135 price range but honestly I don't want to stretch any higher right now, I need to replace the other car next year and need to put more money into that unfortunately!

That’s a good budget for a decent car mate. Certainly consider a JDM car. I was thinking about it myself, but due to job change ended up needing a dirty diesel. Go test drive as many as you can and good luck with the quest.

For 10k you can get a half decent petrol MK3 Octavia VRS, essentially a mk7 Golf GTI in a more family friendly guise. Reasonable on fuel and the tax isn't extortionate (£160 a year)

:(

As mentioned, the cars purpose won’t be to ferry children around, I want 5 seats purely should an emergency occur I can get everyone in the car.
For the record the 8 year old doesn’t need a booster and fits between the two child seats. At the rate the 5 year old is growing it won’t be long before he’s tall enough to get shot of his too!

If you are going down JDM route, how about a Forester STI? Always wanted one of those as an interesting but practical family car. Fuel would be expensive though.

That one looks to be in exceptional condition. They had 3 in when I picked up my DC2 and said £8k should be achievable for one in less good condition.

Obviously, other cheaper importers are available but I liked their service when I imported with them.

Thanks for the suggestions. The JDM route is tempting, I can’t believe the price of the Pulsar GTIRs, I could have made a fortune on my old one!

It really is proving difficult what path to take. I’m being increasingly drawn to the M135 still despite being short of the budget. The looks and performance of the thing is just so tempting. There isn’t a second contender right now but I need to find one!

I like the ST but the interior puts me off, I had a standard TDCI for four years and was hassle free driving. The interior hasn’t changed!
Golfs I’m still looking at, not sure what competes with the BMW other than the older R32?
Civic Type R I was also looking at but not sure if it’s a 35 year old man’s type of car...

Dude test drive a load of cars first or you will be disappointed

Of course, I’d just like to narrow down the search before going to a dealer and testing every hatch they have. Plus I’m looking at 6-10 year old cars so not something I can just rock up at a dealer and drive.

Narrow down the search by driving them surely
