Interesting, thanks.

The Deacthlon has 2x10 looking at the front gears, what makes the Boardman worth £150 more IYO?

Is the groupset better?

I don't have BC membership, how much is that?

Boardman has proper hydraulic brakes, the Decathlon has "hybrid" hydraulics, a mish-mash of hydraulic and cable.

GRX is the latest Shimano groupset for gravel/adventure riding, Decathlon (unless a new model has replaced the one I'm thinking of) uses 105 700 and is horribly let down by skimping on the brakes, which will cost you ~£325 to buy yourself (but would have made whole bike ~£950 if supplied with them).

British Cycling membership starts from £25 a year https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership and gives 10% off cycling gear at Halfords.

Yeh, I had a closer look and missed that it wasn't the Shimano gravel specific groupset (which I want) on the Triban, so you're totally correct, worth the extra £75 definitely.

No stock available at my local Halfords or the next nearest five stores for that Boardman Gravel bike.

PSA...

Torq have a bank holiday sale on. If you order 45 items, it's £1/each which is pretty cheap for Torq. I know SiS can be had for similar money but they are last resort "stop-the-bonk" gels for me.

My order arrived today and the worst date on the gels looks to be August 2022, with the longest dates being Jan 2023. I'm half tempted to order more for 2022 now :D

Possibly, geometry would be quite different to your Cube so hard to get right? I've found that between my two (Giant & Specialized), but then that's also quite the problem of '1 bike to rule them all' as you get so conditioned to it that it's a struggle to ride something so very slightly different. I find it when switching between road/turbo bikes after any long stint of not riding both. Goes both ways. Thanks for the Wiggle R7000 mention.

Cube - 541 Stack, 385 Reach.
Vitus - 545, 379 Reach.

So in theory they should be pretty negligible in difference. There are 170mm cranks on the Vitus but I've set saddle height to centre of pedal axle when crank is at 12 o'clock. Same saddle. Quite possible the Reach is a little different. IIRC I've got a 110MM stem on both the Vitus and the Cube though (Vitus came with 80 or 90mm which was just laughable).

Decathlon said I'd have to wait at least a month for them to replace the spoke and check the wheel... so I bought a pair of Mavic Aksium discs. I heop they're a bit stronger than the Triban wheels. I was eyeing up some Hunt wheels but I should probably drop my weight a bit before I spend that much, currently 110kg. Time for me to start pushing my limits a bit more!

anyone any experience with Vector 3 pedals? Got a message saying low battery last week, changed them and it's not worked since. Still gets picked up, calibrates but doesn't record anything for long stretches, then a couple of seconds, then drops out again.

Tried my Pactimo shorts today.

Sizing seems a bit too large to me. I went off their guide, but I could have sized down I think. I bought a large with long leg. Straps are OK, the middle section is a good height for me, not too low. Material is pretty nice quality, light and soft.

Main issue is the shorts, not enough compression and leg grippers not strong enough (probably a size thing). Glad I got long leg or they would be like hot pants!

I'm 189cm and 79-82kg depending on season/how much I'm riding, probably upper end of that at the moment. They aren't so bad I won't wear them more, but they won't be my first choice of short for a Sunday ride.

I understand about no returns once worn and need tags, but it's a little ridiculous when they cost as much as they do and no way to try before you buy. Maybe offering a discount to size down like Rapha did with their kit, Endura offer 90 day no quibble exchange.

I'm a large in Castelli, Endura or Rapha pro team, medium in Rapha Core.

Hi guys,

Fitted some replacement wheels yesterday and thought everything went well - biggest concern was the cassette change over and it appears to have been well founded... only did a couple of miles today as a road test but after bout 2 minutes, I noticed the rattle of the cassette. I'm 100% I tightened it down enough when switching, used all the right tools etc. I just transferred the rings from my old wheels onto the new, but there is definitely some play, especially on the smaller rings.

The new wheels, Shimano, came with a single spacer - is that not being fitted the problem? Only place I can think it would go is on the hub before I fit the cassette?

Thanks.

Coming back to the shakedry, if I may, I think I'm just going to buy rather than wait for a sale that may never come. What are thoughts on this against this? Is it just the one is a closer, stretchy fit? The second is perhaps the way to go at £215?

**EDIT** I've just realised Wiggle will give me my 12% plat price on the £270 one, bringing it down under £250. For some reason though, I can't use the 'free next day delivery' as it's a Bank Holiday so I will have to wait to order tomorrow. I can't even order now for Wednesday delivery, it would charge me £3.99 to do that? (Given I paid £10 for annual free next day)

The answer is, it depends! As always nothing is clear.

What brand wheels have you bought and what make/speed cassette are you trying to fit? There are a lot of combinations of hub which will either need a 1 or 1.85mm or possibly both spacers.

Thanks @Berger! So, they're only £100 Shimano's, replacing the Syncro's that were on my Scott Speedster from the start.

10 speed Tiagra mechs, cassette, chain and crank. I reckon I probably should have fitted the extra spacer but I just don't know where

Spacer onto the hub first, followed by all the cogs of the cassette.

Cogs are usually numbered and these should face towards you as you put them on.

You do not want to get me started on Vector 3 pedals....

Aye, I saw your posts doing a search :D

Mine had been perfect right up to the battery change, not sure what's happened

Are you dual or single sided?
Do they both show up on your head unit and give a battery status for each?
Sounds like you have the standard contact loss that plagues every single V3 owner in the galaxy.

To resolve the dropouts, spikes and general ****head behavior of these overprices pieces of crud. I used little bits of plastic below the gold metal contact. As well as swapping to CR1 batteries instead of LR44's. I probably detailed it all a bit more in my other kickoff rants anyways but if you want more details just let me know.

Mines are still not perfect, I honestly contest the data I get from them most the time so they are not reliable by any stretch of the imagination but I haven't seen a full on drop out and not seen myself do 22,000 watts in the past few months so this could be classed as "improvement" for these bloody things.

Single, shows up, says battery status okay and asks to calibrate. Everything looks like it should be okay, but it isn't. I've seen people using cork under the contacts, didn't notice your post re the batteries though, I'll have a look and might give that a go.
