3080 - Goldfish Edition?

Not sure there are any games which will fill 8gb yet.

But these cards are so over-priced now they have made themselves irrelevant. Developers target the £3-500 GPU market for game requirements as that is what almost everyone buys.

If I dropped £800 for an xx80 card with 10GB ram I bet my games look and run fantastic. I don't get the obsession with the settings menu.
Then why are you buying an xx80 card if you don't care about the graphics settings?!

Surely you just buy a 1660 or something.

Which is what people on 5+ year old cards, or buying the xx50 edition are already practiced in doing.

You've just dropped £800+ on an xx80 card, and you have to drop settings to keep VRAM use under control... I'd say you're a bit miffed :p

But you won't have to in the vast majority of games will you? Unless you're running an 8k screen maybe.

And before you say "well XXX game uses 10.5GB right now" so what? Flagship GPU owners when Crysis came out were having to lower settings if they wanted to play that immediately after buying their new GPU. They weren't entitled to have a GPU that ran everything just because it's the top spec at the time.

Read the reviews, determine whether the performance is worth the money for you, then buy or don't buy.

I care about graphics, I don't care what they are called. High end cards let my games look great and run really well. And they last for a long time, I've had this 1080 for 4 years, still happy with it.

In many games there are settings which provide no real benefit yet tank FPS or even introduce glitches and things like texture crawl and they are on by default.

Esc, options, graphics options, textures, ultra -> high

Vram problem solved.

I was quite interested in the 3080 however coming from a 1080ti which has 11gb ram is a joke tbh, i've seen this ram fill up with a few titles so gonna skip this gen, Honestly from 10gb to 24gb what is Nvidia playing at lol, forcing people to get the 3090 which I am not doing, Sticking with this 1080ti for another year.

We may see 20gb 3080's or a 16/20gb 3080ti around cyberpunk release

Yeah I'm guessing so because 10gb is not enough going forward at all, It doesn't make any sense, I'm already seeing the strix priced at £800 on OcUK thats the same I paid for the Zotac 1080ti amp extreme with more ram, While the 3080 is much faster the reason the reference is cheap in peoples eyes is because of the measly 10gb ram for a next gen card it's not good enough imo, I'll wait.

Depending on what you wanna play and if you can cope without rtx you can always aim to upgrade next time round, 1080ti is still a solid card.

Interesting, It really doesn't make any sense from Nvidia, I was so hyped to get the 3080 but think I'll wait a bit see what people are saying.

Heard the 3080 only has 10gb o' memory. What a joke, gonna call it the goldfish edition lol.

Is amount of VRAM as important if it is fast enough to shift more information through it quicker, a little like how IPC is more relevant than Ghz? Dont shoot me down it is just an honest question

10GB is considered a small amount of VRAM?

Jeez I've been out of the loop too long. I got 8GB R9 390's in 2015 and at the time it was an obscene amount, more than anyone could ever use. :p

I thought 4 - 8GB was the norm...
