NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

How much better are the other manufacturer models, in comparison to “Founders Edition” models?

I’m going to get a 3080, and was going to go for the ASUS Strix, but see it’s £150 more expensive than the founders edition

I don't get why everyone so happy about the pricing still. Is it just because Nvidia so grossly overpriced the 20 series that anything looks good.

The 3070 is still £150 more than what the 770, 970 and 1070 were priced at on average. That still puts it a whole tier up compares to three other generations.

Same premise with the 3080 pricing too. People are mad to think it represents overall good value to gamers. If they had dropped prices back in line with those generations I would be getting the reaction because that's where real value and cost to performance would shine.

Yup, he did indeed and I was a little surprised when he said "To all my 1080 Ti friends, it's now safe to upgrade". I doubt I'd have said that in his place.

Not meaning to be pedantic, but wasn't it "to all my Pascal gamer friends, it's now safe to upgrade".

I took it as an acknowledgement that Turing sales were much lower than desired and that they know there's a massive market for these new Ampere cards.

Inflation and exchange rate are factors. The prices are pretty much where they should be, and after a month or two they will be lowered with promotions etc.

I think this can be summed up as:

1)Anyone who bought a 2080 Ti (or any expensive Turing card) recently made a TERRIBLE emotional purchasing decision, against all of the advice of the sensible people on forums advising to wait until next-gen was launched. True buyers remorse and completely avoidable.
2) Anyone who bought a 2080 Ti at launch and sold it a month or two ago for £1000 is laughing and can feel very satisfied with themselves.

That's basically the situation.

I paid less than £600 for my RTX 2080ti (used) around 12 months ago and sold it for £900 around 2 months ago.... Bought a used rtx 2080 for £257.99, hopefully I should get my money back on that..

I don't think you can lump all purchases into an "emotional purchasing decision". At the time the 2080Ti was the best card on the market, so it was the best choice for enthusiasts or professionals requiring more grunt from their system. I think the new cards show great promise and think it's excellent that Nvidia have been forced to drop prices. Nothing more or less than that :).

You are wrong... buying a 2080 / Ti a few weeks ago for rrp is a terrible decision whichever way you look at it. If you tell yourself otherwise you are either simply trying to kid yourself or just have low common sense.

I bought a brand new Focus RS a few years ago, I lost £10k in depreciation as I drove it off the forecourt, as did everyone else. I loved every second of owning it and never regretted the decision once, even after pumping more money into it in mods etc. PC enthusiasts are no difference, some are in more fortunate financial situations than others and therefore can afford to buy luxury items. Just because you don't like that (or more likely cannot afford) doesn't mean other people's decisions were wrong. Everyone can judge their own financial siutation and spend their money how they want.

Buying a Ford RS and losing some money when it goes off the forecourt is no the same as buying a top-end GPU a few weeks before a new release. This should be obvious.

I'll never understand the need of PC gamers to constantly judge each others choices, it's pathetic. Can't we all just be happy that for once the consumers finally might win? For once, the large monopoly-esque hardware companies might be forced to price things competitively? It's a win for everyone, regardless of their current PC specs.

You sound like you bought a 2080 Ti a short time ago...

It’s likely that AMD could match Nvidia at every price point for performance and the majority will pick Nvidia.

I will pick the fastest.
But I can't see amd beating the 3080.
I do mean beating, not trading blows or comes near.

Yup, DLSS is really a game-changer and a genuine reason to go with Nvidia if you want your hardware (especially lower-end hardware) to perform better and last longer. Until AMD come out with something similar then they will lag behind in the performance and technology race.

To really sell in numbers imo AMD would need to plop 16GB on Navi X2, beat the 3080 slightly AND price it at £499/$499. Then it would sell. Otherwise....not so much.

But they won't do this, they think they're nVidia now and will price it close. nVidia will *eat* them.

That's the past, lost change, 15 years ago i could go into my local and buy a pint for £2 now i am lucky to get one for £4. Heck in 2000 my parents sold my Grandads house for £80k last week same house sold for £350k. 10 Years ago the original Samsung Galaxy launched for $400 now you are looking at $1k. So yeah to see the prices of the new 30 series i am pretty impressed
