NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Did we learn anything yesterday that would influence my choice of motherboard for my new system?

I was looking at the X570 with a cheap Ryzen 3060 (will upgrade to Zen3 in a few months’ time) and 3090 GPU.

Is that still a sound choice?

True plus the new AMD cards will help keep your feet warm during the winter months...

Because GPUs that require a new power connect won't be dumping anywhere near as much heat..... Right?

Milkybk I agree with most of what you say, but I don't think you're really playing fair when make assumptions about somebody's financial situation after having just complained about people judging the purchasing decisions of others. I'm just saying....

That's the past, lost change, 15 years ago i could go into my local and buy a pint for £2 now i am lucky to get one for £4. Heck in 2000 my parents sold my Grandads house for £80k last week same house sold for £350k. 10 Years ago the original Samsung Galaxy launched for $400 now you are looking at $1k. So yeah to see the prices of the new 30 series i am pretty impressed

I do t care about card 'classes', only the performance and the cost.

Why so much concern about the heat 'blowing' into the CPU?
If you have a non blower cooler on any GPU, all of the heat goes into the case... Vega Strix 64 anyone?
If you have any decent amount of cross case air flow to dilute the 'heat' it shouldn't be a problem.
Assuming the blower portion effectively removes some of the heat, the residual heat dumped in the case should be equivalent of a mid range multifan GPU cooler from last gen.

It may be an issue is some specific very compact cases, but as ever I expect it's being overblown.

Are there any real performance numbers yet or is do we just have the relative performance against the 20-series?

What workload is that? Every core type maxed out on a synthetic benchmark? What's the non-RTX performance uplift?

You do realize that "a few percent" is pretty high when there is typically 0 difference?
That's something called "an admission of guilt". In other words pcie3 will impact performance when it comes to the card doing what it needs to do...rt, open world, next gen gaming...

IE:
Q: Will I need pcie4 for the 3080?
A: You can still use pcie3 the difference will "only" be a few percent. "wink-wink"

funny that when it comes to gaming and CPU’s a few percent means nothing in the CPU section according to some?

I can see a lot of sellers on ebay who sold their video card in the past month or so being hit with buyers who claim they are faulty and will do a paypal dispute getting their cash back. Paypal normally rules in favour of the buyer as well. Its not something I would do but from reading from the comments on this forum - seems a few on here have no morals or dubious at best.

Things depreciate in price - that's just the norm. Phones and TVs bought 2 years ago - how much are they worth now ? There's always a new phone with better tech. Its exciting to see GPU tech move fast now.

I am already 2 GPUS down so will ( sold a while ago ) so have space for 2 RTX RTX 3080. If I had only one PC I would say fk it and get the top tier 3090 but having multiple PCs have gone down the value route.

Gamepass and Epic store changed everything in this house hold due to the free games it made sense to have extra pcs for the kids as the games are free. In a strange way those extra PCS have paid for themselves with the free games ( seperate Xbox pass and Epic accounts for each )

The other good thing about the 3070 is the low power usage so that will go great in my Mini ITX H1 build. ( if the size is better )

Its quite a funny thread with people saying they bought a ( insert card here ) for £400 plus and spent 100 hrs but now feel sad that the card gone down in price.

Regardless of the new power connector, AMD will always keep you warmer than Nvidia.

I don't get why everyone so happy about the pricing still. Is it just because Nvidia so grossly overpriced the 20 series that anything looks good.

The 3070 is still £150 more than what the 770, 970 and 1070 were priced at on average. That still puts it a whole tier up compares to three other generations.

Same premise with the 3080 pricing too. People are mad to think it represents overall good value to gamers. If they had dropped prices back in line with those generations I would be getting the reaction because that's where real value and cost to performance would shine.

There's $50 difference between the 10xx and 30xx series at launch, not 150. I paid 629 for a 1080FE at launch, which is actually only 20 quid different.

Really? Pretty surprising he's kind of saying Turing wasn't up to much...

As some reviewers have said, they're trying to finally "kill" the 1080Ti.

Their problem has been a combination of the 1080Ti being way too good (virtually a Pascal Titan, only released to counter an AMD product which never materialised) and that Turing was underwhelming (both in terms of raw raster power and RT features nothing used).

Ampere is all about finally burying Pascal and getting people to move to an RTX card in numbers to drive the industry forward. Developers have no incentive to add RT support to titles if the installed base of RTX cards is low.

I actually really like the Aorus Extreme version, but not sure I can justify the extra cost over the FE version. Hoping for some reviews before preorders go live.

Also hoping AMD hurry up with Zen3 as everything in my PC is 4.5 years old now :D
