AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

It was around 2080 performance I thought but that was with an unoptimised version? Which to be fair did not impress me at all because the 40 CU 5700XT is only ~20% slower than a 2080 at 4K. So if the 52 CU Xbox X GPU was only 20% faster then it must have been seriously unoptimised.
You're forgetting that the XSX is an entire APU system running at around 200-240W. So the GPU portion isn't unoptimised, it's undervolted and underclocked compared to a dGPU. The 5700 XT on its own is a 225W card. Oh, and the XSX was comparable to a 2080 Super.
If it is 72CU or higher coupled with better clocks and the architecture improvements for RDNA2 then I would anticipate around 3080 levels of performance. So if you set your sights at that level of performance then anything else is a bonus.
If 72 RDNA 2 CUs given a discrete card's power budget and clock speed can only get around a 3080 in performance then AMD have done something terribly wrong. 50% performance per watt uplift and IPC improvements would see 40 RDNA 2 CUs at 225W beat the 2080 Ti by about 15% - that's right, AMD's midrange 5700 XT successor also beats the 2080 Ti just like Nvidia. And that's just 40 CUs. Slap on 80% more and the 3080 could be given quite the smacking in the chops.

So yes, I am anticipating Big Navi to trade blows with the 3080, but with a chunk fewer than 72 CUs, which allows AMD the leeway to actually release a halo product for stupid money if they so choose, or at least counter the inevitable 3080 Ti (or 3090 12GB as it's likely to be called) Nvidia will release should the 3080 be beaten.

I'm really looking forward to see what AMD release.

My money is on having a flagship that competes with 3090 performance at around the 3080 price point of £650.

I'm quite content with my 5700XT and 1080p monitor mind, it's just great watching all this unfold :D

Not gonna happen. I can see AMD going flat out with 80 CUs and 32GB HBM2e for the same price as the 3090 (because at £1,400 why the hell not, this is halo e-peen territory), but the actual, proper cards AMD plan to sell are going to be around the Nvidia competitor price points.

Haha :D

We all know that AMD will provide better bang for buck though. That's a given right?

It could pretty much be their company slogan!

I suppose a better way to phrase what I meant is, AMD will beat the 3080, for the same price.

A more realistic proposal? :p

Amazing, people criticise AMD for "building hype" (when its generally random forum BS and "leaks" that do it the most) and then when AMD say nothing the angst is also palpable..When they're ready to announce something, we'll know.

If it ever happens - Intel also all the time "announce" they are working on future products but in reality the thing that we all see is 14nm, 14nm+, 14nm++ old products.
AMD - we are working on Navi 21, Navi 31, Navi 41, etc.

Where are they, AMD? Any proof that at least a single product exists in competitive form?
Nope.

They can't even make a decent own cooler for so many years. Because TDP wise nothing changes.

Nvidia, at least, on the other hand innovates and at least shows something interesting.

So Coreteks doesn't have much faith in AMD it seems, claiming they will only release a 3070 contender. I find it difficult to see how this can be true. If you put together what we know about RDNA 1, the 50% performance/watt increase in RDNA 2, more CUs, it seems to me, that surpassing the 2080ti by a good deal should be relatively easy for them. Unless they don't want to but then it doesn't make sense cause Lisa has said publicly and so has the new head of RTG(can't remember her name) that they were going after the high-end 4k market. They obviously have the tech to do it.

Could this be misinformation done on purpose? Again makes no sense, cause they've just said one thing a few months back and now they backtrack in an attempt to mislead Nvidia? Nvidia ain't that dumb. Have I missed something? feel free to enlighten me :). The only explanation that I find credible at this stage is Lisa and Co. decided that it wouldn't be profitable enough and pulled back plans to release this last minute. That or last-minute issues with the dies themselves or third, they are going to release something to compete against the 3080 and all this is just misinformation to throw off competitors.

That or coreteks is spouting nonsense for clicks and if it's true he can say "see I told you so" and if it's not he can say "well it's leaks so you take it with a grain of salt" :)

Few more days as the Nvidia hype begins to slow and I think we'll start seeing more from AMD. I'm in agreement with LePhurron above. If I were in AMD's shoes right now I wouldn't say a word as it would be drowned in Nvidia hype.

AMD can’t do anything to spoil NVIDIA’s launch as nvidia will absolutely sell these cards like crazy.

AMD needs to do what they can on their terms but first make sure things like drivers work out of the gate as the reputation at launch will stick to them throughout the generation. No different to how people still think 2080ti are dying left and right.

With a good launch, AMD can compete for holiday sales in whatever price points they’ll be competitive at. It’s also important they launch the flagship first. This whole “big Navi” coming later won’t work and will just relegate their lineup to “also present” status.

The whole “just stack more cu and stack that and 7nm+” etc doesn’t really work that way in how yields scale. At least wait on some performance leaks before setting expectations.

Maybe I have too much of a focus on this area (its where me and my light wallet sit lol) and maybe a bit blinkered but.....

What if they were to announce at 3070+ contender.....but at say $349-$399 as a finger in the air.

Suddenly that "power for everyone's pocket" mass market sweet spot that every youtuber keeps touting for the 3070 is blown wide open again. A 3060 would be slower and maybe the same money so doesn't have the intended consumer draw. Would give them a 5700xt Vs. 2070Super all over again except this time their doesn't just "compete" it outpaces it. you then get everyone with a modest budget and any low / mid tier gaming PC builders attention as well as the rather large console money pot.

Also silences the "well AMD have never even made anything to beat the 2080ti let alone this gen" in one fell swoop

One wide theory granted, but you know..........

This is like kids having a fantasy about flying to the moon on the back of a unicorn.

AMD: We got something big
Nvidia: She (Lisa Su) wasn't ready memes at will

This was a weird one for me too, Jay's past comments and discussions around the VII were never ITS AMAZING! by any standards, but at the same time were not openly derogatory but in that video he just uses it as a "this is how you do everything wrong" example to a degree.

Cool you had that too?

literally everything we have is speculation, why not put it out there as an idea, just something to talk about

Nothing more outlandish than anything else at this point, if I am wrong I am wrong :)

You are not allowed to speculate in a rumour thread... I know... mind-boggling. :S.

I don't wish to start an argument with anyone, lets all keep it on topic

Just here for the discussion with liking minded folk :)

Desperate to find out what that "hmmm" face meant from AMD!
