NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Folks, I'm running a ROG Strix 1080Ti (this one - https://www.asus.com/uk/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-O11G-GAMING/) with a 600W PSU in a mini itx case. The card *just* fits (length is okay, but width means there is very little clearance on the underside of the card to the PSU shroud (Nzxt H210 case). Assuming I want a RTX3080, I think I can straight swap and the sizes will be similar (or the 3080 might be a tiny bit smaller??)

I think you need to be more worried about heat output? The case only has one top mounted and one rear mounted exhaust fans.

The FE cooler vents part of the heat right into the top of the case where your CPU sits.

I know @Captain you kindly helped me and made me consider going for the 3080, just read something on another thread... Would I be ok with the 3080, I ultimately only stream and I'm going to start editing videos, would the 3080 still be ok, would there potentially be much of an improvement in streaming/video editing speed with a 3090?

Thanks

why is everyone saying there is a big shortage of PSU's?? I just picked up a RM850x no problem, several vendors selling it at RRP. Plus loads of other choices too. Im really at a loss as to why I keep reading there is a shortage??

There was a shortage off power supplies during the main covid19 period and even a few youtubers mentioned it.

Who needs over 1000w though? Only those runnning 3090 SLI I suspect. what percentage of people is that?

And people running high end Intel cpus. My overclcoked 9980XE cpu takes 629W when stressing all its cores. An single overclocked 3080 would use up more than what would be left of a 1000W PSU.

But agreed, if you are running an AMD cpu then less likely you need a 1000w or bigger PSU.

Plus its always best to aim for 60-70% of your PSU as the maximum usage as the PSU runs cooler and quieter and more efficiently anyway.

Do you see any FPS drops in game while streaming with the 1080Ti? Is your streaming all done off the same system?

I'll be honest I didn't even think about this. With a water cooled CPU I wouldn't have this issue would I? Saying that there was one day this year where my PC turned off twice due to CPU over heating! I know we don't have full results etc yet but would normally what has better cooling, FE or the third party ones?

Hi mate, it's all done off the same system, at times my game can feel somewhat sluggish but as a whole my stream quality is pretty good, just on the odd occasion it goes like a potato even at 8000 bitrate. I use the GPU setting for the encoder, NVENC I think it is rather than CPU encoder.

How on the Seth are you cooling 600w for your cpu, ln2?
