NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I may keep it then. I generally skip a gen but I don't think the 4080 is coming next year mate. Maybe 2023

No but I would put money on a 3080ti coming out for under a grand with 20gb ram and 95% of the necromancer of the 3090 next year.

So for not much more than uprgading to a 3080 this year, you could could upgrade to almost 3090 performance next year.

That fan is a bit baffling to look at, thats meant to be exhausting air upwards but the blades would suggest its going to pull air down into the heatsink. Surely if it was going to pull air away from the heatsink we should be seeing the backside of the blades?

it could spin anti clockwise i guess?

And yeah the position of that power connector is terrible tbh.

In theory it should be around 70% faster than 2080Ti depending on clocks, mem speed differences. 3080 should be around 50%.

Regards to others.

What reviews are available Monday just 3080 or 3090 also? Tempted by the 3080 to keep me going with ease until next gen but only if it’s 50% above Ti level. Can’t really justify 1400 on 3090. Just a little worried about the 10GB vram though be nice to have had more headroom.

I am lower than that. 38% for the 3080, more in RT and DLSS games and 50% for the 3090.

Could do, bit of a strange way to have an exhaust.

The whole card is quite a step away from your usual design. New power connector, weird position for that connector, tiny PACKED PCB for such a monster of a card, weird fan setup. If nothing else, they are really interesting cards and i love the disruption the pricing has caused. It's about time something exciting happened lol.

Why did they not put the new power connector in the end of the card, at least it would look a little neater.

Because half the card isnt even a card at all, its just heatpipes, fins and a big fan.

The power connector is already at the end of the board!

Cheers my 1080TI! We have parted ways. What a good card it was esp when AIO cooled.
Well im sitting here with my Nvidia P620, neat little card with mini DP ports driving my 2 monitors, it would have killed 10 years ago, but actually quiet seriously is a good little card even has some ok 3d capabilities as a backup.
(It ran MFS 2020 at low res at 45 fps!)

... roll on 17th ... and sitting in a queue for stock of 3080, maybe ill just go EVGA and hang on...

The problem with the 3080 and 2080 comparison is they didn't say up to. Jensen said 2x performance.

It is (in pure RT/DLSS computational performance). They never said its was twice as fast IN EVERYTHING.

We all know Nvidia marketing. You only need it to be twice fast in one game with one certain set of settings for them to get away with claiming that.

And that game is Doom Eternal.

But since that game has a bug which cripples the 2080 performance with those settings on and both cards had to run at stock and not their maximum boosts, then its a misleading claim.

I am lower than that. 38% for the 3080, more in RT and DLSS games and 50% for the 3090.

The basic testing from DF even without DLSS and RTX showed the 3080 at 80-100% the speed of 2080.

2080Ti is only around 30-35% faster than 2080. Maybe 40% at a push in some games at 4k.

So take a game that’s 80% faster than 2080. That could still be 40-50% faster than 2080Ti. Game where it’s 100% could be up to 60/70%.

Yeah but then the fan blade isn't cutting into the air and driving it up?

I'm scratching my head looking at it, if that fan spins clockwise then its pulling air down into the card, spinning counter clockwise the blades are still not facing the right way to have it be an effective exhaust. Starting to wonder if someone hasn't made a big oversight. Just have to wait on the reviews.
