1080Ti has lost a lot of value also. I sold mine at 2080Ti launch for £650. Now it’s worth what £200-250?

Ti cost me £1000. Now worth £400? Lost £600. I’d have lost £400-450 if I kept the 1080Ti instead so not bad for 2 years usage.

Even at £1000, the 2080Ti offered worse price/performance than the 1080Ti as it was around 40% more expensive but only 30-35% faster.

That's a lemon in my books.

The 2080Ti wasn't a bad card per se, it was just way way way too expensive.

The 2080Ti wasn't a bad card per se, it was just way way way too expensive.

2080ti was my best card in terms of resale. Paid £1100 sold for £900. Not bad for over a year usage..

Think I have just come to my senses. I don't even need a 3080 right now with the MSi 2070 Super that I am using and an Asus XG279Q monitor. I think I am suffering from Fomo for real so I am gonna sit this one out after all and re-evaluate when the Supers arrive.

I already get over 100 fps in most games I play with G-sync too. I may use the money for a HP G2 or maybe a PS5 instead. I just got to keep cool next week and stay away from here.

DLSS upscaling from say 1440p to 4k is only dealing with 3.68 million pixels to 8.294 million, where going from 4k to 8k is an additional 25 million pixels, DLSS isn't going to negate the need for serious amount of VRAM.

I will really be annoyed if I don't get a 3080 on the 17th and they're out of stock for months or something..

Will just make me buy the 3090.. which I would have done initially but decided against it for now.

Be careful. I'm on a 1080Ti (about as fast as your 2070S) and my Reverb is the only reason I'm looking to upgrade. I have to run Project Cars 2 at potato settings to hold 90fps. (It still looks better than a CV1 with medium settings though)

I play all non-VR stuff on a 1080p 34" ultrawide. 1080Ti has zero problems with anything on the monitor.

I think the standard for what we ask of the people supplying these vRAM >10gb numbers is that they report the frame rates of the cards using that at the time, because you can write any app to simply gobble up all available vRAM, the issue is at what performance. So far everything else we've seen >10Gb is unplayable and thus not relevant. Second of all we need to move towards using something like Special K as vRAM measurement tool rather than all the standard reporting tools because what it needs vs what is allocated are not the same in pretty much every game tested.

Also the 8k claim, I think there's a new variant of DLSS which upscales from 4k to 8k, I see that as cheating when talking about 8k, I think that's fair enough to bring up that the difference in IQ of the final render will be worse with DLSS upscaling. But also I'm more forgiving in general to high res gaming, I game in 4k in >99% of my steam titles because when we talk about 4k ready or 8k ready, really what we're talking about is about 10-20 of the top most demanding games on the market used for bench marking as the cream of the crop. And as cool as the visuals in them games are, I've never spent more than probably 5% of my gaming time ever playing these kinds of titles vs the sheer number of hours I get out of new games that aren't very demanding. And my suspicion is that for quite a lot of games 8k native will now be do-able with a 3090. Obviously not the benchmark suite, for that there's DLSS or sticking to 4k.
