5700XT: Fine Wine strikes again

So in other words, AMD finally got their software optimised to the hardware just when it as an overall package has got to the stage of being irrelevant :D. Does it now have RT too :p
They can gain on NV probably if they just get on top of the day 1 release driver support.

Day 1 has in game releases or driver optimisation?

If it's driver then I have news for you this happens on every single new GPU architecture from both amd and nvidia. It takes time for devs to get the best out of the new GPUs and also amd and nvidia gain more performance over time also.

Game ready drivers well amd has been on the ball for years now even most of the time releasing before nvidia.

I think the belief is that AMD gain on NV as time goes by which could point to being poorly optimised to begin with. Of course it could mean that NV just stop/reduce R&D on driver support after a while too. People can believe what they want but we may not know 100%. My belief, after owning AMD GPU's in the past is that the software side of things lags behind on release, taking AMD longer than NV to get on top of architecture optimisations.
if that is true then it's something AMD can improve on.

What issues are people experiencing with their GPUs?

I switched from an RTX 2080 to an RX 570, and other than going from 4K to 1080p, I haven't noticed anything 'bad'.
Lots of common complaints about black screening and hard lock ups. The black screening was limited to Navi but also effected cards like Radeon 7 and Vega. It's a shame this had to blow up in the media for AMD to write a specific patch to fix these issues.

Also a lot problems have been caused by the end user using faulty or old PSU's or low quality display cables (this was eluded to in the above Hardware Unboxed video).

Going back to the video the 5700XT looks like a decent entry level 4k card, hopefully AMD will son start discounting old stock with Ampere just around the corner.

Predicting here there will be lots of issues with 3000 GPUs from Nvidia because of people using weak PSUs...

I can explain one reason why the older gen cards improved so much. Before Rdna, The GCN architecture lasted for 8 years. Started with the 7970 I believe and ran all the way up the Vega cards. Constant improvement and driver updates for the newer cards would benefit the older generation on the same GCN architecture. Plus the consoles used GCN and games that were optimised for them would obviously benefit older GCN cards yet again. That's a big part of it.

As for why Navi is improving. Yeh probably just crappy release drivers.

Thats great that its ever so slightly faster once its about to become obsolete :p

For people that like to upgrade every generation/keep up with things, this whole "fine wine" thing is largely irrelevant .

Let's not forget nvidia has there fair share of issues with new GPUs remember some users GPUs was dying with space invaders.

Am sure nvidia GPU issues on the this forum are easy forgot about lol

True but not everyone does upgrade, you be suprised how meany people keep PC hardware for years without upgrading.

Yeh, I mean its good that it gets a bit faster, but it would better if they managed to harness its power straight away. For AMD's sake in terms of sales, generally , people don't buy a card because it may end up matching or being ever so slightly faster than the competition a year or two down the line.

I have the non xt version will this benefit from the driver upgrades? i'm still rocking 1080p, i was planning a new build for when the new cards come out but i think i can hold on for a while yet, 1080p still looks good to me, may as well milk it for a little while if i can.

Fine wine is good and all but its a pity AMD can't get this performance or there abouts on release day

Exactly this, AMD had a chance to capitalise on their new found CPU fame. A lot of Nvidia users tried the 5700xt and went straight back due to driver issues. I had very minor issues with mine and it’s a fantastic card. But I want RTX for cyberpunk, and DLSS is now working which is why I’m jumping for a 30 series card.

Hardware Unboxed are in the middle of testing this gen GPU's with the latest Drivers ready for new GPU benchmarks.

Don't forget that HWU have recently changed their test rig to an AMD-based system for PCI-E 4.0 and that the same PCI-E 4.0 is giving the XT a few percentage boost. It's in the same video review.

I'm highlighting this for transparency, Humbug should have done the same imo.

Also remember that the 2070S has a greater feature-set, and also full DX12 Ultimate support whereas Navi 1 doesn't. I doubt 2070/S owners are feeling burnt.

Great cards though, mine tweaks well
