AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

So who thinks big navi can get close to the 3080 now that we know how it performs? What kind of specs are we talking to achieve that?
Easily. If they don't actually gimp the bandwidth I wouldn't be shocked to see the 80CU Navi give the 3080 a spanking. TSCM 7nm is no joke.

That's pretty much the impression I got. To me, it sounds like he just tells people what they want to hear, says the info is from a reliable source, then maybe backtracks slightly.

Usually when people say info is from a source that has been 'right before' with no other details, it's highly dubious.

Yet, you here the phrase again and again.

Problem is if you do actually have good sources you need to obfuscate if you care about them as well as they will be under strict NDAs these days and often if they are lower down the ladder anything they are working with is "watermarked" in some way - even down to things like variations in the clock speeds of stuff they have access to, etc. so they can see who is leaking information.

EDIT: And these days those lower down the ladder might not even have access to information like clock speeds on what they are testing even LOL.

I believe so, they've done it before. And it's been said they are doing it now.
Now where the performance will actually land is anyone's guess. There are 2 possibilities that's been floated "rumored". Is that these cards are indeed powerful.
Or
They have these next gen games so well optimized for RDNA 2 that even a potato will shine.

It will be interesting to see how things develop.
There is a rumour (of course) that AMD are "leaking" conflicting information in order to track down where their leaks are coming from.

It was the same with the HD4870 before launch - none of the rumours were true!

Assuming 50% performance per watt increase as AMD planned, best case scenario I'd suggest is 60-64 CUs to match or edge out the 3080 (I'd call it the 6800). 384-bit bus with 12GB GDDR6, possibly the 16Gb/s variety. The rumoured 72 CU model would go a chunk over the 3080 (6800XT).

Don't know if this is already posted.
Btw 3080 is looking like a good upgrade path with very favourable reviews trickling in.

Normally, if Nvidia was sure for its performance crown, it could launch the 3080 as 3080 Ti, and 3090 as RTX Titan A.
Something makes them nervous and this is why RTX 3080 is launched today with so large die and only as a 3080 at relatively low price.

This said - I think it makes sense to expect performance leadership delivered from AMD this time, as promised several days ago.

I think we will end up with a Vega 10 like die size of around 500mm2 or nearly double the Radeon VII die size, so ~600mm2.

It is odd that AMD haven't even confirmed the model names of RDNA 2 GPUs being launched this year.

It would be really easy for them to do...

From what I've heard they abandoned the core (on 8nm) that the Titan would be on - which suggests that if a Titan card does come it will be 7nm. GA102 seems to be stretching the limits of the Samsung 8nm node.

x90 is more usually reserved for dual GPU cards or occasionally ultra and leaves them room to use the Titan branding as needed.

Err...

They confirmed its going to be the 6000 series

Nobody knew if it was a 3070, 3080 and 3090 until it was leaked until high heaven. And even then, Nvidia didn't confirm it until the actual kaunch event...

Why would AMD do any different?

Some people are truely boggling... :p

The trouble with that is, why would AMD bother to track down info that is (very likely) not true or incorrect?
That's the point. They're not tracking down information, they're tracking down holes. It doesn't matter if the information is false or that it conflicts, the point is AMD know where they originally planted the information that gets "leaked", and from that narrow down the leaker.

Your pipe is leaking, send something down the pipe and see where it comes back out then close that hole.

Seems like a lot of work for something thats coming out in a months time. Let the pipes burst I say! If you got a good product. Let it shine!

No, no, I was comparing it to AMD latest GPU aka 5700XT.

Here are the RAW facts ladies and gents:

Let me brake it down for you lot.

Big NAVI needs to be 100% quicker than 5700XT in 4k to LVL with 3080. FACT
( 4K its where this will be fought. not 1080p 1440p )

relative-performance_3840-2160.png

Right. So.

Big Navi has to be 100% quicker that "fine wine" 5700xt just to LVL. 3080 never mind beat it.
Big Navi has to be 90% quicker that "fine wine" Radeon VII just to LVL 3080.

Both Radeon and 5700xt are already on 7nm TSCM

Which let me tell you right now is a pipe dream. Sorry lads. Aint going to happen.

I tell you what will, probably happen.
We will get a bastardised 60CU from Xbox with RDNA2.
Improved efficency + tweaked Mhz, and now you are probably looking at a 50% uplift over 5700XT.
Which should put us in and around 2080TI/3070 with 16gb of ram, good cooler and now you are talking.

Thats a good card, price it right. :=)

And i just might be interested.

Just dont paper launch that succa on OCT 28 AMD>

I know all this but knowing what we know right now it shouldn't be that hard with the advantages AMD have with the 7nm process over Samsung 8nm. Everything we know about RDNA 2 looks to put AMD in a situation where if they go big enough they should be able to match a 3080. It's a case of will they or won't they and not if they can.

It is odd that AMD haven't even confirmed the model names of RDNA 2 GPUs being launched this year.
Um, RX 6000? And from there it's a given the numbering system will follow the same pattern as last gen.

The reason though specific model names haven't been revealed is because that will give away AMD's product stack. 5700XT was as high as last gen went, and that was a mid-range card, and also draws direct parallel to Nvidia's 70 cards, which is where AMD targeted. A 6700XT therefore is a given. But confirming the name 6800XT confirms there is a bigger SKU pitched at the 3080.

AMD are literally giving nothing away this time around.

The titan is a flawless die and can only be marketed after you have reached a certain critical mass in wafer production, need to have enough of those to market. I believe the Titan is real and will hit the market just as last time.
