great for everybody else to catch up with 2080ti users after 2 years and good to a degree that people with a good oc 2080ti may as well skip this gen and use their overpriced card for another two years.
bad news is that we still don’t really have that 4K card giving consistent 60-120fps unless you are prepared to shell out for a £1500 3090 and even then it’s only going to be 30% faster than a good oc 2080ti.

The memory is linked to the number of cores and the memory bus width. In the case of the 3080 it's 10/12 or about 83%. The 3090 has 12 memory chips on each side whereas the 3080 is single-sided and with two missing on the front.
If they made a 24GB 3080 then it would actually be a 3090 as the cores and bus width would scale up accordingly. Their choices are thus threefold:
1. Simply double the memory (using the back of the board or new higher capacity chips) to make a 3080 20GB with the same number of cores and bus bandwidth
2. Up the memory to 11GB (or 22GB if they double it) it and enable some more cores and bus bandwidth so it lands between the 3080 and 3090
3. Up the memory to 12GB and give it the same number of cores and bus bandwidth as the 3090, so basically it's a 3090 with half the memory
My money's on the first option.

That would be more of a 3080 super. I reckon they would up the cores for a ti so option 2 or even option 3 but more likely option 2.
depends how many failed 3090 chips they have with enough good cores to do that. Why kill off good cores and sell it as a cheap 3080 if you can sell it as a 380ti and charge £200 more?

is it? All the overclocking on the 3080 I have seen has been poor and only given a few percent at best. And even then it’s powered limited on the FE and the AIB boards (so far) have less power.
It’s dump at overclocking by the sounds of it though. 1-3%
I’m still half tempted, then sell my good clocking 2080ti (~15%) Nothing to lose really if its as good and the heat wont affect my CPU HSF which apparently it won’t.

depends on how the custom AIB boards perform with the three 8 pin sockets and how much power they have released in the bios, in theory some AIB boards could go to 525w.
The reference AIB boards with two power pins and lower power bios and what I think looks like potentially poorer cooling, I can’t see them out performing the FE. But we will know at 2pm tomorrow.

on overclocking? You got a link as the reviews I watched they only got up to 4% better performance from the overclocked FE. 10% is better.
I am not saying they only overclocked the card by 4% but that the frame rate gain was only up to 4%

Yes, you are missing pretty much every review that tried to OC. It's not even 10% AT BEST. Minimum is more like 3%.
15% faster in what benchmark? show me some frames.
