NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Hi there not sure if I’m in the right place. But I have a quick question I’m buying my son a ryzen 5 3600 pc for Xmas will there be any chance of getting hold of a rtx3060 by then or should I snap up an rtx 2070 if they get near the £300 mark. Thanks

LOL... you can always rely on internet forums for someone to have the least relatable example of a story possible. :)

Why? it perfectly shows that lots of people have loads of surplus cash in their pocket from covid,. Should they be spending it? Maybe not.

The 3060 is unannounced so I would say it may be unlikely. But you could always grab a 2nd hand 1080ti at the £300 mark, which should beat a regular RTX 2070 non super.

And the tech sector for gaming is a luxury product so be the first thing people would stop buying. The UK is about to go into another major lockdown.

Its what stopped me eating more into my spare cash to get a 3090, would rather be on the safer side with regards to savings in these uncertain times.

I take the opposing position. Lockdown = way more time at home to use a 3080/3090.

Free money hasn't stopped yet, new year these cards will probably be back to MRSP and 10+ in stock :D

Amazing that you need to ask this question. Someone using those COVID savings to buy a Porsche as a weekend runaround could be considered a rather extreme example and it represents a small niche of the population.

Unless it was an old banger porsche that cost peanuts, of course.

That's what stopped you... other than the fact the 3090 at £1700 seems like an atrocious value proposition given the relatively small gaming performance upgrade over a 3080?

I did say it was only £8k. And for a lot of people, especially on these forums, the monthly savings from covid and cancelled summer holidays has been thousands and thousands so what's a £650 gfx card?

As I added later, from not going out to the pub some people have saved £1000s this summer alone.

i would wait until mid-November and then decide.

Ahh, I didn't see you had written it in another post. When you simply say: "my friend bought a porsche with his savings" then clearly people are going to assume a high price and not a banger. :p

But yes, not going to pubs has likely saved a lot of money... though the amount of people drinking more at home has apparently massively increased.

Looks like it was likely bought from OcUK with the haribo there as well.

For the love of god OcUK, PLEASE put in a captcha or something to stop scalpers... This is stupid now.
You can't stop it if they're only buying one. Whose to say he's buying it for his personal rig or flipping it for profit?

So... Scalping then? It's a **** thing and distributers need to tackle it in my opinion. At the base though, this is Nvidias fault.

Well I'm contacting the shop I ordered from to see if I can uncancel mine, pretty sure it will be impossible, but it's either that or I dunno, have a 2070 Super in my PC at the moment but at 430 quid I'm going to return it.

Yeah but if you earn ok money and you're secure with some savings and assets, then its not that much money, i mean as younger person that would have been a lot, but as an adult with a steady profession you care less about things like price to performance ratio. Thats why those products exist for people that arent bothered too much by just splashing out.

Problem is covid puts even professionals at risk, because not only can work dry up, but serious economic crashes can wipe out the savings of fiscally conservative people. It's making spending of cash hard right now, i want to know i can pay the mortgage for a few years if theres serious economic downturn in future which i think will happen.
