I did think about them, hence I ordered an ASUS TUF on release date for £649 ;)

Always knew 3090 was never going to be anything special price for performance wise and did point out to you that EVGA was a bad idea due to them no longer having an RMA centre in the UK which you never even said thanks for but instead said your house insurances would sort it out so it would not matter :(

:p:D

:D

That's a great buy :)

From all I have learned over the past few days about the supply issues with the RTX30 series, I am left coming to only one conclusion, and that is the fault lies squarely with nVidia / Samsung and the GPU wafer fab.

Foxconn who assemble the boards are capable of assembling massively complex boards like the iPhone - far more populated than GPU, and they can do that in the quantities meased by the millions. I'm not seeing any mention of component shortages such as GDDR6x as happened with the previous generation.

The ampere platform is not specific to GPUs either, nVidia is using this in many other chips, and there is no suggestion of shortages of those, granted it's not the entire same chip, but it is the same technology and if Samsung can turn these out in reasonable volumes there's no good reason they can't be capable of turning out reasonable volumes.

Which leave only one realistic conclusion, that nVidia are holding back on GPUs because of the perceived threat from AMD big Navi, and they don't want to get ambushed like they were in the middle of the RTX20 run by AMD pulling the rug from under them on price and forcing them to release a 'super' version of the card. Big Navi launches 28th October, and very revcent rumours suggest it will compete on Graphics power with the RTX3080, and that nVidia are going to up the memory to 16GB and 20GB just to stay in the game.

It would appear to me, that this is a deliberate corporate action on behalf of nVidia who are running scared of what AMD are going to bring to the table, the GPU power it will have, the memory and the Wattage it will draw.

Who here would be happy to find that the card they bought, is now the same price with double the GDDR ?

Pretty insane that unexciting 3090 performance makes people think that paying 850+ for a £650 card is somehow good value.

Nvidia have pulled a blinder here.

They are, but it'll take a bit longer according to Gibbo. Two weeks or so.

Where was 2 weeks or so mentioned?

Gibbo said on Monday to give them a few days to come up with a queue solution. The CS staff on the phone told me Tuesday it was due to be sent that evening hopefully. So I've no idea what the hold up is? Very frustrating for everyone over a week later now...

In a post somewhere, don't have a link to that and I can't readily find it among his posts.

I think it's great they do. Personally, in between work and general life, I don't have the time or desire to F5 Nvidia or OCUK waiting for GPU's to be in stock.

3080's especially, they are so 'cheap' that millions around the world can afford one, and want one right now! Very hard to compete with that.

I ordered my card today, now I can sit back, think about other things, and know in the back of my mind that I have a shiny new toy arriving in a few weeks ;)

You might as well wait till they are in stock though if you are happy to wait. The fact is they know the position they are in but are still taking pre orders, without being clear to the customer before ordering, which will give the majority of people false hope, and the rest to be left in the dark. Other retailers have stopped taking pre orders and are much more open about the situation at least.

why do you think there are so many people on here having to figure it out for themselves?

I ordered from a competitor, and before I did I was told how many had been pre ordered, and when they were expecting a delivery, so I knew where I was in the queue, and had some sort of time frame to go on.

Yeap literally other retailers are telling customers expected delivery dates and roughly how long they would have to wait. Here we are "today a small batch of cards will be shipped". :D

All the listings say Pre-Order, and if you click on that you get information that says for Pre-Order payment will be taken immediately, and you'll be put on to the queue. No eta, they don't have it, the customer won't have it, it's their responsibility to pre-order based on that or not.
