Can I just say welcome to all the noobs posting here.

We always get an influx every gfx card launch.

I hope y'all stick around and enjoy the community.

People stressing over capacitor-gate ... for now these are unconfirmed rumours, please take a deep breath, and check back for more detail on the problem later. Just because there are videos about it doesn't mean that information is correct, more information will surface in the next few days.

OUCH!!! to that nearly £300 price hike for 6 of all the cheaper ones, on the STRIX too. According to how things are going this card is going to seriously have trouble boosting.
Unless ASUS have changed this, strange because their cheaper TUF doesn't have 6 cheaper ones.

This is all so up!

However this Strix 3080 shows 6 MLCC

Meanwhile this plays into AMD's hands day by day, literally gets worse and worse, as each new day comes, there is more shockingly bad press of the 3080.
I really do hope AMD hit one right out the park with Big Navi, never been a fanboy of one or the other, but this is a shocking launch and to be honest product overall, this needed way more time in development.

Hey guys, new to this forum.

It looks like everyone and their dog has ordered the Asus Strix OC :D I was hoping due to the price it wouldn't be as popular, how wrong was I!

Maybe by my birthday next year I will have my hands on it! haha

If you look at the Gallery section of Asus's website, the 3080 ROG Strix is shown with the "more reliable" MLCC capacitors.

Do not hotlink images.

I wonder why Asus might have changed their design...

As long as it has two of the more expensive ones it meets spec

Only the FE 3080 and EVGA FTW are running 2 mlcc groups with 4 poscaps

Zotac trinity and Gigabyte OC seem to be the only cards running 0 mlcc groups with 6 poscaps

Most seem to have went the route of 1 mlcc group and 5 poscaps
Palit, EVGA XC3, EVGA XC3 Ultra, MSI gaming trio, MSI ventus OC

The Asus TUF and Strix cards use 6 mlcc groups

Looks like they are jumping ontop of things early, this is good. A top end card like this should be using MLCC anyway!

This also might delay these cards coming out as they have to be changed. Unless only the later shipments are getting these, in which case i feel for the early guys

Maybe that's why this card was delayed was so they could get on top of it?

@NikTheSHNIK How is that early night going... still posting at nearly 2:00AM.

My samwisetwopence, I’m as excited as every other person on this forum to get my hands on these new cards but I do firmly believe that NVIDIA have shot themselves in the foot somewhat by overhyping the launch, but let’s be honest what company does not do this. Bet you any money we will see some rebuttable from the PS5/Xbox Launch.

In regards to the issue with the MLCC and POSCAPS it’s not looking great if it turns out to be true, but I will remain optimistic until anything concrete is proven.

Last closing thoughts with this entire situation, like allot of things in life communication is key. And I think if both NVIDIA and all retailers keep transparent about situations it will make everyone feel allot easier.

P.S Anyone looking forward to wow shadowlands I have not played wow in several years but actually really like how the expansion is shaping up.

P.S.S Why am I wanting either a curry or Donna kebab at 2:27 with no Alcohol on me.

Interesting message from EVGA's forums:
Hi all,

Recently there has been some discussion about the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 series.

During our mass production QC testing we discovered a full 6 POSCAPs solution cannot pass the real world applications testing. It took almost a week of R&D effort to find the cause and reduce the POSCAPs to 4 and add 20 MLCC caps prior to shipping production boards, this is why the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 series was delayed at launch. There were no 6 POSCAP production EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 boards shipped.

But, due to the time crunch, some of the reviewers were sent a pre-production version with 6 POSCAP’s, we are working with those reviewers directly to replace their boards with production versions.
EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 series with 5 POSCAPs + 10 MLCC solution is matched with the XC3 spec without issues.

Also note that we have updated the product pictures at EVGA.com to reflect the production components that shipped to gamers and enthusiasts since day 1 of product launch.
Once you receive the card you can compare for yourself, EVGA stands behind its products!

Thanks

So does this beg the question into what kind of testing did some AIB models that have the 6 POSCAPs (e.g. Zotac Trinity) shipped to customers? Did they test and know about it, and either hoped it wouldn't crop up or power limit to avoid this happening?

Whoever says, this poscaps might not be the problem yet, lets wait for more research, looks like the research has already been done! Hence why we seeing so many different pictures of poscaps and MLCC on boards from pre-release to now, would answer that question at least.
Next question then would be, like me example who ordered the MSI Trio X, has this QC also been perfromed and they have gone with 4 and 2 or not.

I am so on the fence right now on the cancel button if it is to be confirmed MSI haven't bothered, and just shipped out all the shoddy ones, as the Ventus has been. Hopefully reason we not seen many Trio X at the moment is hopefully this, wishful thinking though of course.
