I have to wonder what the mood will be if these RDNA 2 skus beat Ampere. Then Nvidia releases counter skus (s/ti).

What do you do in such a scenario?
A. Buy RDNA 2
B. Sell your 3080/3090 so you can get Super TIs/RDNA 2
C. Defend the purchase

I'll buy the better GPU if I'm still in the market.

Not sure about oc uk, but over here I've seen a couple stores do a type of insurance product for it - like, buy a 3090 and if big Navi is faster you can swap it for Navi

AMD should be giving numbers now given the issue with 30 series stock. I don't care if RNDA 2 wins legacy rasterisation, but I can't see AMD catching Nvidia on RT and AI, which is why I have a 3080 on order.

Buy Big Navi as I think it will be a bit more sensibly priced. The 3080 is still a lot for a GPU imo especially in present times. When NV counter with a 3080 super/ti I suspect it will beat Big Navi but at significant more cost. Wouldn't like to be a 3090 owner when a 3080 super/ti is released.

Almost everything Nvidia does has open/DirectX equivalents, the only potential issue for AMD is DLSS as Nvidia pre-trains their AI which AMD would need to do for the DirectX equivalent, how competent they'd be at that we'd have to wait and see.

You can currently do RT on any GPU technically, just not as well on non-RTX cards.

I wouldn't like to be a 3090 owner no matter what Nvidia release... it's the worst buy I can remember in Nvidia history.

I'm amazed there hasn't been a decent leak for Navi 2 or Zen 3 yet... 1 week from announcement for the latter.

I need something :p

This also surprises me that AMD haven’t seized this opportunity. They have a potential customer base to take from nvidia - people on preorder just need a nudge to cancel, it’s a mess. If big navi is so close to 3080, why not sow the seed directly now. Why hold back? They don’t have to be ready with cards to ship they just need to do better than nvidia in communicating and providing confidence to customers of proper release and timeframes. I’d rather been told it’ll be a month or two vs finger in the air.

TBH 3090 is for people who have to have the latest and greatest, don't care for value for money and will be off to the next "big" thing the moment it replaces the 3090.

I don't see there being a 3080Ti. There's no gap to place it in. Who's buying a card only 10% better than a 3080?

Of course, self-explanatory that many are like this, but some who are just generally uninformed will also buy it thinking it will be a clear improvement over the 3080, or even worse buy it for SLI without knowing how well it scales. It's all buyer beware of course, but it makes it no less ludicrous and if criticism of this abysmal card saves even one person from making a stupid mistake then I am all for that and I will continue to slam it for the horrendous release that it is.

Im not sure what you mean about no gap but with Msrps at 650 and 1400 for both nvidia gpus then there is a clear spot at £1000.

If it helps 3D mark Timespy scaling is nearly 100% with the 3090 in SLI

That why I was talking about performance. There's plenty of scope in price but there is very little space between a 3080 and a 3090 to fit a 3080Ti. Pay a grand for a slightly better 3080? I think most people won't bother, those that would will buy a 3090 for an extra 10%.

This is where I think Big Navi could disrupt Nvidia's plans.

Ah fair enough I see your thinking.

Unfortunately though there are countless numbers of people who don't care about spending silly money. Even though it props up this overpriced market. :(

I wonder if the 3090 will end up seeing a short shelflife. Maybe nvidia will discontinue it when the 20gb 3080 is released and maybe that'll be the Ti, and follow that up with the Titan-A.
