Did the 3950x improve much from the initial batch? Just got one and wondering whether to jump on a 5950x straight away or sit it out for a bit on this 3950x.

No it didn't. Good score with CB R20 by the way. Looking at your CB R20 post, i would say that it's actually a bit lower than it should be and i'm shure you could do better. At 4.5Ghz all core clock, you should have been able to beat mine easily in multicore. But even your single core at 521 is lower than my 537 (which i have never submitted).
I wouldn't worry too much about jumping on a 5950x straight away. Get the best out of your 3950x first because i'm shure it can and will do better.

5800x is it? The 8 core fastest clock speed.

Anyway, percentage wise, how much of an improvement is that going to be over my Sandbridge i7-2600k?

Ok fair doos.
Massive to me is 10% - after all we are used to this with intels garbage over the past few years.
Flipping massive if a surprise 15 or more % - we have not seen that since the big bang
Absolutely flipping massive is a generic term for something absolutely flipping massive and as it contains two previous explained terms i leave it open to interpretation.

Putting ridiculously flipping massive means its flipping massive (which we have already established as whopping) but adds a previously unknown quantity as an add on.
I would hazard a guess that ridiculously is akin to the way you feel when you find tescos have put up the cost of a bloody bag to 20pence...

So to compress it all down, its er... a lot.

If I were to build a 5800X series system, would would replace my old C2D E4300 running at 3.2GHz. As far as I can tell a 5800X would be around 20 times faster, 2000%!

Compared with my 2012 MBP (I7-3615QM) it would be around 4 times faster, 400%.

A lot.

I've got an X470 and B450 based servers at the mo - I wonder how cheap the current 12 cores might get when Zen3 hits the shelves. Just under 400 right now, and seeing how far the 2700 fell post 3000 series launch - I'm hoping for £250ish..? Sound sane or crazy? :p

I recon about £300~350 as they should still beat 8 core zen 3 chip for core heavy workloads. You might be able to pick up a good deal on the used market though.

Should be around 25% according to userbenchmark

Is the 5000 series out yet? Any release date and costs?
Looking to replace my i7 4790k with 4000 / 5000 series ‘bundle’, mainly for playing Warzone
I have a feeling the bundle will cost more than CPU/RAM/Motherboard though as will need a new soundcard and probably get a new case too. £600 sound do-able for case, soundcard and bundle?

The worst thing about these forums is they don't put a summary sticky at the top, we all have to wade through pages of crap.
