AMD Navi 23 ‘NVIDIA Killer’ GPU Rumored to Support Hardware Ray Tracing, Coming Next Year

Really don't care at this point, can't afford it anyway until in a few months and even if I could I would rather wait a month or 2 and see how the dust settles before making a choice. If things don't look so good, as in performance is lackluster(hard to believe) or price is poor (more likely) well, I'm just gonna ride my V64 for another 2 years and save the money.

Wise move. Even with the funds available it makes sense to see what happens before jumping in.

I want to upgrade my 5700XT Red Devil for Cyberpunk 2077, as I play 3440x1440p, i suspect this card will struggle...

But im tempted to wait to see if we get partner cards of the highest Navi 2 cards, if we do i may just wait for one of those.

That reference cooler looks impressive but i suspect GPU shortages and price gouging for the foreseeable future, a lot of this will be due in part to the scarcity of Nvidia cards and the preorder buyers for those switching to AMD cards.

I think we should all be prepared for the cards not only being priced close to Nvidia offerings but also retailers taking the mick with price hikes because they are struggling to get Nvidia stock and because of their usual BS reasons, creating a demand etc.

I may just wait to snipe one next year during some kind of deal somewhere

This should be tattooed onto every PC enthusiasts forehead for any GPU release.
lol, " DON'T BE AN IMPULSIVE BUYER!!!" smack in the forehead, would fit the apple folks as well. Maybe we should start up some GA(GPUholics Anonymous) meetings so we can get all that pent up emotion out of our systems :p. @Kaapstad could be our "Secretary" of the group.

*snip*

See I was in your shoes as well not long ago. Then it hit me, every time I've upgraded a GPU due to a game launch I've always ended up somewhat disappointed. Either the game wasn't as good as I had hope for, or the game ran poorly even on new hardware, or something else. This time I'll just wait for the reviews of the cards and the game and put that info together into a plan of action and hopefully, I'm not going to be disappointed :P.

Only thing I dont want a repeat of is although the 1080Ti was expensive (for me), when that was snapped up and hard to get hold of prices jacked up on everything, eventually even the 1060's were going for £350. This is where the hindsight kicked in and you were left thinking, damn I should have got it for £699 and the card is still pretty good 3.5yrs later.

Having a vega56 its on the point of either getting a new gen early or sweat it out for another 6 months.

You need some maths lessons... But I think I see where/why you're going wrong, so maybe this helps.

The 5700XT is half as fast as the 3080, so 50%. In this statement, the 3080 is the reference point.
The 3080 is 50% faster than a 5700XT -- this statement is incorrect, because you've changed the reference point to the 5700XT. The 3080 is TWICE as fast, 200% = twice.. so to get from 100% to 200% you don't add 50%...

Let's use real figures to illustrate this further;
You have 2 numbers, A=100 and B=50
50% of A = 50 (half of 100)
Add 50% to B; you get 75. (half, 50%, of 50 = 25.. add that to the base value of 50 and you get 75)
To make B equal to A, you have to add 100% to B - since 100% of B is 50, so 100%+100% or 50 + 50 = 100.

Basically, it matters what your reference point is.

this should be a sticky on top of each page. A lot of bad percentage math throughout the thread.

All these leaked specs are great, but if all this is true will we see sufficient stock levels to settle the demand? I sense months of waiting again.

I feel if AMD has a superior product it will be priced at a premium to nVidia..
AMD is competing from a low market share position, so they'd rather like to have back orders than speculatively fill up inventory.. its going to b a wild guess for them which they'd wish to avoid..
but if its like 10% slower than 3080 we can expect a better deal

I want to upgrade my 5700XT Red Devil for Cyberpunk 2077

I dont get this.. all Bioware and CDPR games are best played 12-18 months after launch for a more seamless, fulfilling experience

Would be too funny if AMD come out with something matching or slightly beating Nvidia but want more money :p:D
Just could NOT see that happening, if they did wow, they'll shoot themselves... would be different if it was a dual chip or something... something nvidia didn't have... but yeah would be funny if AMD suddenly became the greedy company!

One day everyone was saying how the 3080 wasn't all that and how they expect AMD to beat it easy.

The next day it seems like the hype has collapsed and it's only going to be between the 3070-3080 (which I can live with at £500)

This place lol.

They have done it before. I remember Athlon days, they were very competitive, they had better and cheaper CPU's, then once they got a good chunk of market share, what did they do? The FX line up were bloody expensive, I never did buy those and ended up going Core2Duo.

People need to remember none of these companies are your friend. As soon as they are in a position to do so they will charge as much as they think they can. That is why I have no loyalty to any of them. I am loyal to myself and buy to meet my own wants and needs :D

+1 I did get an FX51 for free but they were insanely priced and I'd never have bought one with my own money. As you say they all charge as much as they think they can get away with I just love it when there's the opportunity to play them off against each other as its win win for the consumer.

Just stop using percentages, that will solve all the issues.

Twice as fast just say 2x faster.

Somewhere in the middle, just say 1.7 or 1.5 or 1.4x. People can (should) understand that far easier.

Lower performance, you say 0.7 or 0.5x or whatever.

Twice as much cake = 2x the cake.
Half the cake = 0.5x the cake.

I like cake....

But those are basically percentages :D 2x faster - 200%, 1.4x - 140%, 0.7x - 70% ... I mean... it's not rocket science.. It's a little disheartening to see how the education system has failed some people to the extent they don't know primary school maths though, certainly indicates we need some kind of education reform :(

Plus... nothing makes me sadder than "half the cake" .... I WANT MOAR CAEK!

real math is not done with numbers :D
applies to complex math as well
