oh wait i thought you were joking because i thought the 1070ti wasnt real but it seems like it is...

you cant seriously have a pentium d with a 1070ti ? that is ludicrous. you are mad lol.

The master race seem to want 240 FPS on monitors with questionable quality control. Some even 360 FPS.

There's always gonna be a "well aktuwally" person to nitpick, its an expensive position to be in if you want all the bells + whistles going beyond 60hz/fps, widescreen and all that jazz. As the HU video presents nicely, a 3600 or a 3700X is a good sweet spot for most needs. I would love a TR or a 5900X, doesnt mean I really need one at the expense of a solid GPU.

Topic title is about IPC gain. This is not for most needs. This is for people genuinely excited about finally getting some progress

Your argument is predicated on pure gaming. I'm looking at hybrid gaming/home lab. Could I do that on 8 cores, yes. But 12 let's me leave half lab running...

What IPC gain are you referring to then? Generic across the board 17% or the single thread actual improvement?

Bearing in mind this is IPC gain for existing Ryzen users which by yours sig is not you (intel).

It is for me. Zen 3 finally gives me a window for upgrade.
Zen2 had only a hair better IPC that Skylake, maybe 3% at best. Now it will grow to 20% or more, more than my last upgrade from Sandy Brigde to Skylake.

I am happy with the AMD progress. I came from a Vishera FX cpu! ;)

What context are you debating about so I can get on your wavelength? For me being a 3600 user, the outlay for the 5600 is not really worth it (if you are talking about IPC thread title excitement) and I have watched a few reviews now.

I think the 5000 series will be the new darlings of PC gaming to get the best from the next round of graphics cards. I think 5800X will the high performance bang for buck king.

The 5800x is far from the 'bang for buck king' if you look at (assuming you haven't) and take the prices into account vs the 5900x.

As I posted earlier in the thread...

Bit disappointed that AMD have priced the 5900x and 5800x so similarly... I was hoping it would be more of a middle-ground.

5600x = $299
5800x = $449 (+50%)
5900x = $549 (+22%) <-- Smallest price increase for most additional cores and potential multi-threaded performance gain.
5950x = $799 (+45%)

I think the 5800x is priced too high and should have been max $399 considering it's only 2 more cores than the 5600x, but they seem to be looking to make the 5900x as appealing as possible by making it appear like better value vs the 5800x with a smaller markup for the additional 50% cores.

The 5900x is the best option for the next 2-3 years with this pricing model.

The 5900x is being positioned as the most tempting purchase compared to the 5800x. If you don't want to spend that much and want ban for buck and 8 cores then wait for a 5700x next year.

I have looked at it. Core for core it seems the 5800X will get the most work done.

"I think 5800X will the high performance bang for buck king."

Maybe you didn't write it properly.

It's pointless trying to talk to jigger in a rational discussion, he's brainwashed, it's best to just ignore him like I do. Just think of him as an AMD bot, it makes more sense then. You can just leave him to his ramblings. Otherwise it's like banging your head against a brick wall.

The sane people know the 5800x is most definitely not the "bang for buck" it is in fact, the worst of the announced line up.

I see the level of intellectualism in this thread continues to nosedive.

Definitely one to bung on the list.

Perhaps I’m out of touch with CPU prices these days but I wouldn’t ever think a £420 CPU would be considered in a ‘value’, its expensive! You could just about shoehorn it into a sub £1200 gaming PC, but you’d end up sacrificing somewhere else like graphics.
