Nvidia should just sell FE cards to retailers on the condition that retailers are only allowed to sell them in person, no online sales and each card can only go to one unique person (as evidenced by photo ID)

I mean, they could just build enough cards BEFORE they release it. Radical idea, but it could work.

Maybe we could all crowd into shops and cough our way to the front of the queue?

Agreed but there is not much difference between a 3600 and a 10900k either at 4k. If it was that simple then why is amd bothering with all this gaming focus with Zen 3
Because gaming is mostly at 1080p and 1440p and those lower resolutions are where the most visible gains are due to increased CPU dependence.

Also, they want to make boatloads of cash by targeting enthusiast gamers who are happy to buy processers more powerful and importantly more expensive than they actually need.

That's marketing. It let you think you need a better cpu, that's better then Intel, at 1080p. But do you really need one? Depends on your cpu and gpu.

You only need a 10900k or ryzen 5000 cpu if you want to play games at 1080p ultra with a rtx 2080ti or higher to get the most fps out of games. But then again a few people plays at 1080p with these cards.

Upgrade path for the old cpu with a powerful gpu (how many people do you think have this combi?).

Buying a new gaming pc with the best of the best. Not so much look at the steam survey. Most running 4 a 6 cores cpu with a gtx 1060.

Most of the worlds population have low disposable income so that is never surprising, however the best looking and/or most ambitious games are not designed with the lowest average specs in mind... they push the envelope and then give people the flexibility to scale down settings to compensate.

That is exactly the point. It is this ultra-niche, professional e-sport level of gaming that Intel and their fanboys continue to bleat on about, how they're still the superior choice in gaming and that means they're still the best. This is the only win Intel still have on the desktop, enthusiast and DIY space, and Zen 3 by design is going to take it away. Now yes, AMD can wrap it up in marketing (although it is a valid point) by saying "1080p gaming is important to us because most of gamers still use 1080p", but we all know the message is really "Intel literally has nothing on desktop now. We're the new benchmark" without being as moronic as Intel by actually saying it and dropping their competitor's name every 30 seconds.

99% true, but there is one area that AMD won't beat Intel for some time yet. Pure clock speed in extreme benchmarking. I would therefore like to make a prediction.......................Intel posting slides of 8Pack pouring LN2 over a bare 5950x on November 6th :D

Don't forget to disable most of the cores first!

The 5600x comes with a Wraith Stealth cooler. Would this be sufficient enough if I'm not looking to overclock it to the extremes?
The Stealth is pretty rubbish, likely to throttle at full load even without overclocking. A 3rd party cooler will be much better, and quieter.
