*** NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3090 SERIES STOCK SITUATION - NO COMPETITOR DISCUSSION ***

Regarding the Strix 3090 and 3080 (oc or not), there is an issue with what seems to be all of them, where the shroud will buzz when the GPU reaches a certain temp and the fans reach a certain RPM, looks like ASUS are now aware and asking for details for the people effected (basically everyone with these cards, a few don't have the issue), so be aware, at around 72% fan with a temp of around 70deg, it will buzz, and its really really really annoying.

Example seen here from another card owner:

Luckily I undervolted my card so temps or fans never reach those numbers, but still.

My 3090 Strix Oc has been collected today for RMA due to this exact issue , well mine was the right hand fan making a racquet when going above 70% and made some strange buzzing noises briefly when dropping under 70%. My Ek waterblock is on its way to me so yeah i could have just fitted the block and be done with it but if i were to sell the card in the future then i would want it 100% working for its new buyer plus for the price it cost it should be absolutely perfect and nothing less so its gone back for a replacement which hopefully wont have the same issue

bizarrely enough, best to read about it on the Evga forums.

https://forums.evga.com/EVGA-GeForce-RTX-3090-FTW3-XOC-BIOS-BETA-m3124192-p39.aspx

one guy even does a roundup review of several 3090 with the Evga bios and the MSI performed the best and was the coolest so he kept the msi and sent the Evga and strix back!

quite a few ftw ultra buyers have sent their cards back and bought the cheaper msi instead.

Thanks for the info :) Good luck with the waterblock, hope that all goes ok.

Very interesting, some are actually defective fans, some are just the shroud, mine is just the shroud, my fans are fine, i can just lightly touch the side of the shroud and the noise is gone (obviously i cant hold it forever). Was yours full on fan issue or just that buzzing as seen in that video?

Im waiting to see what Asus say, they were asking for people with the issues contact details + serial number on the ROG forums as lots of people are reporting it, so clearly there is an issue.

Mine was 100% a fan issue , i was able to hold the centre of the fan to slow it a little and the noise would totally disappear... let it go flat out and would make random buzzing sounds but would ALWAYS be heard on the cooldown phase ... at 1st i thought it was coil whine but no its not that and can be confirmed it is the fans by going into msi or gpu tweak 2 and manually ramping the fans to anything over 70% which is where it will start to buzz , drop it to 60% and will buzz like crazy then stay silent if kept at 60 % which is impossible on air once you fire up a game as likes to get hot with 480w going through it :D

I will fire them a message with the details , hopefully get a replacement sent to oc asap as they( Asus ) are now acknowledging its a fault with them, not great considering its cost:rolleyes:

Damn that sucks, yer they get hot! I undervolted and only pull 60-70% of what it used too, hardly reaches 65deg even under any 3dmark stress test (with 65-70% fan).

I could just get another gpu sag holder and hold it to make noise go away, but will wait to see what asus say as so many people have it, they won't recall, but might send out a kit or something to sort what ever the issue is out.

Shall see, watch this space!

This is also a note to others who are receiving a Strix 3080 or 3090, most of you will probably also have this buzzing noise issue. Which sucks :(, let us know how you guys get on :-)

As stock mine sat bang on 69 deg so right in the sweet spot for buzz mode :D With it turned up to 480w and a manual oc applied it would sit at 76 deg with the fans close to 100% which helped drown out the buzz mode but would also act as a nice space heater with the amount of heat that was coming off the thing

Have you thought about an RMA , as long as your within 30 days you should be able to get it exchanged if your not happy with it and its having issues , as i put above the fact it cost £1700 meant personally i wasn't prepared to accept any funny noises that shouldn't be there. My 1080Ti Strix never had any issues like this , this 3090 should be the same if not better

Am watching eagerly at the outcome of this , are we the only unlucky 2 who received dude units :( ... i imagine there are more out there with this issue , it actually took me about 2 weeks to notice it wasn't quite right but once i heard it that was it i couldn't unhear it :o

I don't think an RMA will solve this issue (shroud buzzing at least), so many people, someone already did and got another back which did same thing, doh!. its just resonance, from what it sounds like, yours was a full on fan hardware issue, the other 99% of peoples are simply just at a certain temp, certain fan RPM, the shroud will buzz.

Asus will just issue some form of kit for people or brace to stop shroud from resonating. But we shall see, i currently don't care about it enough as cant hear it with how i run the card, so will never notice it again. But i'm certainly on the list waiting to see what they have to say, if they ask for it back, then sure.

However, there have been a few reports of fan issues like yours where the fan physically sounds broken / bad bearings.

Yeah the Guy i spoke to at OC about the RMA also said it sounds like the bearings are faulty in the fan and i have to agree with him , seems I've just been unlucky with this card and fan issue ... i will say apart from the fan issue the shroud didn't seem to buzz at all as all noise was from my fan . it had a bit of coil whine but no worse than my 1080ti was when under water so that didn't bother me at all just the annoying fan buzz. Hopefully i don't get sent another dud , that would be a pita :o:D

Quality control obviously being skipped so they can get more than 5 units out the door a week :p;)

Damn not so helpful with Strix and will never know if it’s making any noises as I’m profoundly deaf dang. It’s weird as it’s same design across Strix RTX 30 and for the Radeon 6000. Meaning all of it might need to be updated, not too bothered as am going slap water block on it right away. Will sell card with block and air cooling. No point keeping the block etc.

So after missing out on a 3080 and pondered over Navi 2 I bit the bullet tonight and ordered a 3090 from a competitor. Went with the Gamerock OC after seeing solid reviews for the 3080 variant. It was a toss-up with the gigabyte vision which was also in stock. The white colour would have matched my build but fancied something a bit different. Hoping my 850w PSU will be enough!

Welcome to the GameRock clan :D , they are great cards with great components (22 VRM same as the strix oc) and build quality I grabbed 2 of them 3090 oc too . I just saw only place to get them right now they are selling for £1950 and they had 8 in stock today and sold 5 and 3 left on a well known American retailer of everything, guessing to USA people because they can't get them there and have been crying for them every forum I go on and the none stop messages on twitter to Palit to get them over to USA.

A review here of it of the 3090 oc:-

Thanks! I saw that video...which discussed everything except performance. I based my purchase on the strong 3080 showing for which there were plenty reviews to see. I paid £1599 from a UK site which was reasonable compared to the gouging seen pretty much everywhere else. Looks like a delivery tomorrow is on the cards although same seller messed up my 5900x order so I won't hold my breath until I see it.

Well looks like the 3090 stock drought is over and demand is less so cards are actually going up for sale in the UK at lsit price.

There is the Gigabyte Eagle OC 3090 up for sale at £1399 today and the MSI Gaming X trio 3090 for £1469.

Hopefully some of the sub £1399 cards will start popping up soon and if Asus get some more stock in we might see the Asus Strix OC 3090 for its list price of £1495 and the none oc for £1465.

Demand is lower or stock is higher, the Founders Edition was available for over 3 hours yesterday
