I'm not in the market for one, fortunately, but my old man will be shortly... what's happened to pricing? Another victim of 2020? There doesn't seem to be hardly anything under £100. I usually set Dad up with an Epson every 5/6 years for around the £40/50 mark. He likes the cheap ink :D

I reckon he's going to be in for a shock!

No idea where you're looking or what specific requirements you have but i can find a decent selection of printers for £40 - 50.

I thought the exact same thing. Went to live in china a few years ago and remember thinking "wow £50-100 for a printer, theyre expensive here."

Moved back to Uk and thinking the same, thought they used to be like £30-40 to get you suckered into buying their ink.

Last week, I had a quick look on tree Gum (know what i mean?). £15 and 30 mins later, had one delivered to me. Mint cond, extra inks inc. Sorted.

thats what id try anyway if money is a concern. obs second hand though, usually you have to trust the "used once" people.

Yes it is a lot more than £40/50 but when you consider how much inkl that comes with it this is cheap.

Buy something that the ink is cheap on the unit doesn’t cost the money
its an awesome deal considering thyre usually like 200 quid. i saw them, very similar to the ones they use in china, but dont look like home made ink tank bodge jobs haha! I thought the tank ones looked crazy when i first saw them, thought they were knock offs/fakes

I've found some models under £60 from a couple of competitors after a longer look, some are in stock by the looks. They don't appear to be in abundance like they normally are though? Especially from Epson...

My Dad generally kills off his printer every 5/6 year like I say, the combination of print volume and using crappy eBay inks isn't ideal :p I've just found the invoice for the last one I ordered for him; an Epson XP-412, on offer at £38.

I was hoping to find something like that again but I can't see anything new around that mark.

If you're aiming for within £40, yeah you're not going to have a huge amount of options, but there are options nonetheless, they just might not necessarily be Epson.

If your dad prints lots and isn't printing high quality photos that need precise colour reproduction, in the long run, page for page, a laser printer works out cheaper (the toners and the printer just cost a bit more upfront).

I can't name competitors here (without getting a slap for breaking the rules), but that place that sells electronics and washing machines, etc, that has stores everywhere has several options on the cheap.
